Name: Mathayus, the Oceanic Acid
Height: 150 meters (when rearing up on his tail; his height when lying flat on the ground is about 30 meters.)
Length: 50 meters (body only), 150 meters (with tail)
Mass: 80,000 metric tons
Description:
Mathayus is a gigantic Eurypterid-like monster with armor of dark blue and black. His long tail is lined with legs, like the body of a centipede, and his body is equipped with four deadly pincers. His barbs, claws, and mandibles are brightly colored in yellow and red, a warning of their venomous nature. He has nine eyes, rings of horrid teeth in his mouth, and a facial shield so extensive that even his eyelids are armored.
Mathayus's story, it is said, is one part tragic, one part disturbing, and all parts revolting - then again, some Terran kaiju have arrived under equally bizzare circumstances.
It had all started fifteen cycles before the present time, on the planet of Aruhueiajif of the Mintaka system. The Ewaniku race, it said, had experimented with genetic engineering for about as long as the Humans had, maybe even longer. It was their idea first and foremost to create a powerful weapon, but not for the same purpose that the Humans would in the future. These aquatic invertebrates wanted POWER. They didn't want a guardian... they wanted a WEAPON.
While the Humans would have chosen dinosaurs - and did - on the grounds that they were the strongest creatures around, Aruhueiajif didn't have as rich a natural history, so the Ewaniku had to choose wisely from their current stock. Over 90% of the planet was covered in water, so it was nautral that, having evolved an underwater lifestyle, they had plenty of sea life to choose from. But they knew most of the planets they wanted to conquer had mostly land-based life, so they needed something that could traverse the other 10%. After researching various fauna on their planet, the top scientists of their race eventually discovered the most potential in their home turf's top predator: the Aruwaekun Fuwjia. Its name, in Ewanik, means "Deep-Ocean King," and for good reason. In Human terms, an adult can grow to over 55 feet long, weigh in at up to 3 tons, and kill virtually anything it can get its pincers on. Its long, sinous body is lined with paddle-like legs; two on the front of the monstrous head have evolved into deadly pincers, and another two have become a deadly tail stinger, both of which secrete a deadly poison. With so many legs, it can swim to the bottom of the ocean, crawl on dry land, and even climb near-vertical surfaces. And when attacked, it arcs its tail high and cracks it like a lethal poisonous whip, giving credit to its Terran nickname: "Scorpiopede."
It was from this frightening creature that the Ewaniku developed their weapon. Since they had tangled with the size and power of a lot of the resistance artillery many times before, they knew their weapon had to be BIG, so it was natural that this was their first decision. It also needed bigger, more deadly front-end weapons, so they modified the front claws for maximum crushing power and added two more slashing pincers for good measure. And of course, to keep it safe from enemy fire, the scientists expanded on its natural suit of articulated armor, which provided an ideal combination of protection and flexibility.
At last, the ultimate weapon was ready for its first mission. The great monster showed enormous promise, especially after it destroyed the strongest artificial weapons they could provide in its initial test runs. It wasn't long, however, before the true weapon was to be put on its first real test. One of the military colonies the Ewaniku had established, located on the moon of another planet, had just been invaded by the planet's race. Without a second thought, the "Aruwaekun Wiadjiw," or "Deep-Ocean Tyrant," was loosed upon the enemies, who were immediately and uncerimoniously decimated by pincer and stinger alike. The war-like Ewaniku were jubilant at the carnage, and their weapon was declared an enormous success. Soon, the authorities put forth plans for an entire army of these creatures. With a legion of Aruwaekun Wiadjiw, the galaxy would be theirs for the taking.
Needless to say, however, something absolutely had to go terribly wrong.
As it turns out, the authorities had paid so much attention to the monster's power and weaponry that they had forgotten a far more important factor: its well-being. They had assumed that their weapon would willingly obey their orders, and would trust them as its master. What they wanted was a usable "war-afef," as they put it... what they got was a mindless killing machine with no conscience, much less sense of loyalty. The weapon had to be placed under maximum security on the trip home, and kept guarded at all times to prevent it escaping.
Needless to say again, it did escape. To be precise, it did escape once it had returned to its home planet. Realizing their fatal mistake much too late, the authorities were massacred anyway as the weapon they had placed all their faith on for so long laid waste to their entire civilization.
At the end of the day, the only positive side to the devestation was that the Ewaniku would never again conquer another defenseless planet. In the meantime, the Deep-Ocean Tyrant, its blood-thirst never sated to begin with and its name well-deserved, departed from the fallow planet and set off in search of a new killing field. Only a select few Ewaniku were lucky enough to survive the attacks, and those who did were often the more sensible ones, those who had looked upon the project with dissapointed compound eyes, knowing that one day, the ones they had despised so much would pay for tampering with the forces of nature.
Fifteen years later, Planet Earth would bear witness to the mindless, soulless bloodlust of Aruwaekun Wiadjiw... and of course, the slaughterfest to follow.
Personality:
Simply put, he has none whatsoever, period. He only obeys his instincts, which are of course to destroy everything he touches. He is by default a loner, which isn't surprising considering that he has a tendency to attack virtually anyone and everyone within the vicinity of his pincers and tail stinger.
As can be expected for someone with no cunning but lots of armor and weapons, Mathayus relies heavily on brute force. Whatever gets in his way, he plows right through it without any regard for its well-being. His recklessness and disregard for personal safety have won him many a battle, but he has the tendency to rush headlong into the fight no matter how uneven the odds, which is especially problematic when he is faced with faster or smarter opponents.
Attacks:
- Beware My Stinger Tail: This monster's tail is the key to his survival. It can stretching to over three times as long as his own body, and comes loaded with extra legs that serve as paddles and a lethal poisonous stinger. By lashing his tail, he can propel himself through the water at 250 knots, and maim foes from virtually any direction. His tail is also extremely flexible, like a centipede, and he can coil it around his opponent and constrict with enough force to drive his lethal poisonous barbs deep into the enemy's body.
- Poisonous Predator: All of Mathayus's pointy bits are tipped with brightly colored barbs that secrete an extremely corrosive acid which, when primed, it can dissolve even the metal armor of weaker mechas.
- Crush Claw: Although they resemble Terran crustacean pincers, the four enlarged arms on his front in fact serve as extra mouths. Two are designed for crushing and slicing, while the other two are built for slashing and stabbing. These also secrete the same poison as the tail, giving them an extra dose of lethality.
Powers:
- Armor: Mathayus is covered completely in armor that can withstand the teeth and claws of most kaiju. It covers all parts of his body, even his eyelids, but also has lots of joints to ensure flexibility.
- I Got Better: Because of all that genetic testing on his person, Mathayus is already dead, which makes it insanely difficult to destroy him. Without any need to breathe or sleep, he can travel through both deep oceans and outer space without any visible problems.
Weaknesses:
- Tail-Dragger: Because of the sheer size of his tail and pincers, Mathayus's weapons can be his weakness. His tail in particular is an easy target when the enemy sees past all those poisonous spikes, as it is so long that it is easy to grab hold of, preventing him from swimming away.
- Empty-Headed: Although he is extremely deadly in a fight, he relies solely on instinct in battle. This makes him easy to defeat when one knows how to decieve him and get past his lethal defenses.
