Just as Grimm's energies cascaded into Talizan's back, the dragon extended his energized wings and brought them over his head. At the same time, his spines (the ones he had left, anyway) began to glow as a point blank vapor heat ray shot upwards at Grimm. The Avatar of Death's attack on Talizan did connect, but with the wings of fire raised all around him, blocking his path to safety, Grimm was forced to take the vapor ray. Now it was a battle of the wills.
Grimm continued to funnel his unholy energies into Talizan's back, while the dragon weaved his vapor ray up, down, and all around his enemy's body. Talizan's scales, flesh, and even some of his spines were beginning to rot away, but Grimm was being cooked alive, the vapor ray touching every inch of his skin. Who would win this round? Would Talizan let Grimm go, in hopes that the bird would halt his attack before the dragon's spine was affected drastically? Or would Grimm be forced to stop his own attack and pray that he didn't become fried chicken?
As it turned out, neither scenario happened. Instead, a great chain of fire coiled it's self around Grimm's body and forced him off Talizan's back, but at the same time away from the vapor ray. The chain of fire slammed the bird into the dusty ground hard enough to cause the found to tremble for miles. With blurry eyes, Grimm could see the source of the magic weapon. The Guardian of the Sun had used his elemental forging power to create a fiery chain out of the intense heat of his own, incredibly prolonged vapor ray. The handle of the chain rested in his right hand. The fist clenched as Talizan prepared another swing.
Grimm was tugged into the air once again as Talizan swung the chain, but this time, it wasn't the ground that met him. Instead, Talizan's tail swung into Grimm's path, the spines along the middle of the tail pointed towards their target. The impact was enormous. To any creature in the near area, it could have been mistaken for the crack of thunder. The blow tore the bird right out of the chains and into the earth with a loud "whump!"
Talizan marched up to the down avian. The tail's spines had inflicted deep wounds across Grimm's badly burnt chest, and the blow had left Grimm nearly immobilized with pain. The fiery chain changed into a whirl of flames, morphing it's self into a spear. Rearing up on his legs, Talizan threw the spear of fire, intending to let the weapon pierce and detonate within Grimm's wounded chest....

Grimm tried to flop out of the way with clumsy beats of his ragged wings, but it was obvious that the spear was going to run him right through. Seeming to realizing this, the Avatar of Death closed his glowing purple eyes and prepared for the intense stab of pain that would certainly possess him in only a few seconds. As the bird gave in, the dragon could help just growl in satisfaction.
Then everything went wrong.
Bursting through the raging sandstorm in a thrashing mass of vines and vegetation, Thoralax plunged right into the path of the spear!
Talizan breathed harshly in horror as his partner was pierced by the fiery weapon, the spear punching through the stone armor and sinking deep into the chest of the plant monster. Although she writhed and flailed, the spear shredding and dehydrating her critically low supply of fresh vines, Thoralax had one thing to be thankful for. The flaming weapon had only just missed her core. If it had hit that vital part, the very core of her existence, it would have been infinitely worse.
The spear exploded.
Thoralax whipped back her head and wailed, her agonized song reaching high into the heavens. Her entire chest was open and unraveled, the armor there blown to bits and her core pounded by the explosion. Still screeching, the Great Space Dragon tried frantically to reassemble her torso, vines hurriedly coiling and curling inwards. A whistling scream cut through the air, and Quetzar slashed through the sandstorm with broad swings of his slender snout. Quite tired of Thoralax's recovery act, the Sun Warrior swooped down and threaded his emerald head and neck into the mass of retracting vines. The vegetative beast gave a high groan of surprise as she was attached to her greatest foe. Ragged membranes spreading, Quetzar slammed against the air, launching up and leaving behind a wide-eyed Talizan and a slowly nodding Grimm. The bird hadn't just given in, he had foreseen and awaited Quetzar's interference.
"Now where were we..." the great vulture cooed, lunging at Talizan with energized wingtips only a moment later.
High above the battling dragon and buzzard, Thoralax wailed as she was hauled unwillingly into the sky, Quetzar's wings pumping powerfully to propel them both. In outrage, the plant monster did all that she could, did what her instinct were shrieking at her to do- lash out. The right arm of the borrowed body unfurled, four long, sinuous, clawed vines cracking down at Quetzar's side like organic whips. The solar serpent winced, grunting sharply in pain as the thorny talons raked down his length, cracking scales and drawing blood. In response, the winged guardian belched a gout of golden flames. The celestial fire was thrown down the hero's form by the wind, engulfing both the plant and the serpent. To Quetzar, it was nothing more than a pleasant warm. To Thoralax, it was like being tethered to a hot water heater. The vegetative beast howled, her vines and stem-like appendages steaming and withering. The parts of her body pressed into Quetzar actually began to brown and crack, the vegetation there dead.
As the Sun Warrior and the suffering plant ascended the raging storm, Quetzar angled his wings up, looped through the clear sky, underbelly parting the clouds, and entered a furious dive.
The two monsters became a brilliant comet as they plunged towards the ground below, their speed and heat warping the sandstorm around them. Molten teardrops of glass rained in their wake. Closing in on the ground, the storm parting around them in a swirling tube, the serpent and the dragon entered the final stretch of their treacherous plunge, the final destination of their free fall directly between Talizan and Grimm. Seeing their respective partners screaming down in a streak of celestial flames, the Guardian of the Sun and the Avatar of Death drew back and shielded themselves with their wings.
The golden meteor struck the ground in an earth-shaking BOOM!
The featureless plain cratered under the force of a falling star, soil displaced by hundreds of meters and outright vaporized by the insane heat. Dust and debris exploded outwards in a thick cloud that veiled the battlefield and its combatants completely...
(Well guys, this it it! No idea who's gonna take this one, but no matter which side goes on to the final round, this was a truly awesome match.)

I expect to be on the losing end here, but after that epic fight, I expect it to go either way. Indeed, this was an oddly epic match for Grimm to be involved in. Mhm... But we will have to wait until Rex gets time to judge.

I saw that Soundwave and dom had posted, and I was like: "OMG, the match has been decided!" Then I found out we were still waiting on the ref, lol. The anticipation to see who wins is driving me insane! Such an epic match, and probably the most even one I've ever been in. I have no idea who will win this one, but it has been a truly great match either way.

"ATTENTION! Cease combat immediately! This match has concluded! The winners are THORALAX and TALIZAN!"
The reason being that, while Grimm could do a lot of damage with necrotizing effects and foresight, his general frailness didn't help any. Quetzar, while immune to Talizan's fire, wasn't so lucky with spore effects from Thoralax or melee attacks in general. However, both sides put up a valiant fight and it could have gone differently if Grimm and Quetzar had been a little physically tougher.
"Return to your quarters immediately. The final round awaits."

Thoralax roars a VERY extended wail (like the creature Biollante's) while shaking her head, snout pointed to the sky. They did it. Her and her partner did it. Anybody who boasts that this was an easy match clearly did not watch it and/or can't understand because they did not fight in it. Grimm, the Grim Reaping vulture and Quetzar, the Sun Warrior, are two tough kaiju in their own rights and together form a solid team. Either team deserved victory, but Talizan and Thoralax managed to snatch it.
Healing is in order, maybe more-so than Talizan; Thoralax exhausted all of her vine reserves and all of them are battle-ravaged to the extreme. The first column of light to strike down is VVL's. Not a moment too soon, she's transported back to her quarters, sheds her physical form, and takes time to meditate as just her spores in the center of the arena before she mends her avatar.

This'll go down as one of my top 3 favorite matches. Thank you Hayes and Dom for the privilege of being one of your opponents.

Slowly rising from the crater on bloody wings, Quetzar felt shame burn within him. He had guessed that he might now be victorious in this particular fight, but the actual announcement of such was simply a punch to the gut. The shame boiling in the serpent's stomach was soon consumed by flames though, and the Sun Warrior reared his head proudly. He had no need to be ashamed. He had fought his hardest and still lost, but that didn't mean he was weak. It was only proof he could become stronger.
Ragged membranes pumping with increasing power, Quetzar swooped down into the crater. The solar beast first descended towards Talizan. The two creatures of the sun locked eyes. Many things passed through that gaze, radiating from Quetzar's warm crimson eyes. Anger or resentment were not among them. He quickly dipped his head towards the dragon, wings sweeping into a sort of bow. Then, the Sun Warrior came to hover in front of his partner. Knowing the bird would probably not appreciate some extravagant show of affection or friendship, the reptilian giant simply touched his hooked snout to the vulture's brow briefly. Quetzar wished that Thoralax had not fled already. They may have been bitter foes here, but he held no ill will towards the Great Space Dragon. He wished she knew that. It couldn't be helped though, what was done was done.
Everything here for him settled, Quetzar soared up from the crater and vanished in a column of electronic light.

As the Sun Warrior returned to the Hub with a blinding flash, a cold sensation immediately ran down his length. It was as if some chilled breeze had washed across him, dimming his internal fire. He knew this feeling. It was the feeling of great evil gathering. But was it in peace or war? Would there be some dark alliance, or would they fight and bicker among themselves? And Thresher... he was there, Quetzar could sense his cold essence among the other devils.
Although he was still bloody and battered from the battle, the Sun Warrior banked and winged towards where the chill was strongest. He knew it was exceedingly stupid to present himself to a league of demons in such a sorry state, but Quetzar had to investigate. This had to be looked into.

Despite his great injuries, Grimm had wobbled to the teleporting beam and he was transported back to his housing dome... but regeneration was not what the garuda would be doing on this night...

With Grimm gone, Talizan was now alone in the vast savanna. He and Thoralax had won... an outcome that he had not expected. Under normal circumstances, Talizan would have been proud to have gained victory in such a difficult fight. But this time, pride was not what the dragon felt. All the Guardian felt was relief... and fear. Relief, because he could be sure that Alyson for the time being, at least until his next match. But the feeling of fear was stronger.
He thought back to how he had lost control during the fight, pounding on Grimm unrelentlessly, and without mercy. He had become overcome with fury. Talizan was not one to become a mindless killer. His training as a Guardian Monster had taught him well.
So where did those feelings come from?
Talizan was scared for a reason. When he had defended into his mad state, his eyes had lost their natural light. They had become black... cold... perhaps even insane. It was something that had never happened to another Guardian Talizan knew. The only thing familiar about the whole experience were the eyes themselves. A chill ran up the dragon's spine as he slunk over towards the teleportation pad.
Those eyes did not belong to any Guardian. No... they were the eyes of the very creature who's cells Talizan was born from in the first place. They were the eyes of the infamous galactic demon.
They were the eyes of King Ghidorah...
