Name: Tarakona
Height: 65 meters
Length: 120 meters
Weight: 55 000 tons
Description: Tarakona is a gigantic aquatic insect, though it appears to be some sort of larva rather than a diving beetle. It looks almost like an alien, with large glassy compound eyes that take up much of its head. Much of its height is due to both its foremost legs – each nearly as long as the monster’s entire body and thickly built – and the large, hump-like back. The kaiju is covered in spiked armor that serves as an aggressive defense, and a large overhead horn not unlike that of a rhinoceros beetle arcs over its head. His body is flat and smooth aside from the jagged spikes. Tarakona’s most notable feature, however, are its secondary jaws. Normally tucked beneath the monster, this “labium” is long, hinged, and armed with a dangerous claw-like appendage. When rested, most of the labium covers the majority of the underside of the head.
Tarakona is dark green and brown in color.
History: Tarakona’s species were originally discovered in New Zealand in 1976. Since then, these aquatic beasts have terrorized the Pelerudont population as well as mankind, and are one of the primary reasons ships and boats were replaced almost entirely by aircraft. Although they were never man-eaters, the Tarakona would often mistake the human vessels for larger prey.
Funnily enough, these creatures were also the reason most aircraft were later equipped with low-grade defensive weapons…
Personality: The Tarakona species is known to be territorial to most life forms, especially other aquatic carnivores. They are solitary creatures, though adults have been known to congregate when resources are abundant – usually disastrous for nearby human populations. Tarakona is a carnivore, although he and his species have never been known to feed on anything as a human. Instead, these deadly predators hunt and eat smaller kaiju, either by hunting other aquatic species or by snatching kaiju close to the water like crocodiles. Although his predatory instincts will most likely make Tarakona a vicious UCA combatant, these creatures have also been observed to be surprisingly intelligent, quickly adapting to changing situations and inventing simple tactics in the heat of combat. It’s possible that Tarakona will be able to adapt to fighting with a teammate of a different species if a match requires it. In combat, Tarakona fights viciously and relentlessly, but with eerie intellect. He also prefers to keep the battle underwater where he holds the advantage.
Attacks:
Labium “Secondary jaw”: Tarakona’s iconic weapon is a hinged, secondary jaw, tipped with a heavy-duty pincer built to attack large prey. The labium is 30 meters long, and the heavy pincer can stab, crush, and secure creatures much large than itself due to the tremendous pressure it can exert. To attack, the labium is extended by a contraction of muscles and high-pressured bodily fluids, the speed of the thrust reaching 300 milliseconds. This results in an extremely powerful blow like that of a hammer, enough to stun opponents, shatter armor and cause a great deal of internal damage, sometimes even penetrating though flesh! This attack may be combined with an energy surge to form an even more devastating blow.
Forearms: The huge forearms of Tarakona end in brutal three-clawed pincers. These limbs are built to overpower, pummel, and grapple with opponents, and the pincers can exert enough pressure to crush hard armor and metal. Attacks may be combined with an energy surge.
Horn: The rhinoceros beetle-like horn arcing over his head can be used as a deadly ramming tool. It’s extremely hard and solid, built to withstand heavy impacts, and can pierce through tough armor given enough force behind the blow. Can be combined with an energy surge.
Spiked Armor: Spikes adorn the top of the thorax, the sides of the abdomen, and the edges of the foremost legs. Can be combined with an energy surge.
Energy Surge: Tarakona can increase the lethality of his attacks by channeling an unknown form of energy via physical touch. Though it may appear similar to electricity and features powerful EMP properties, this energy does not electrocute. Instead it deals damage by burning a target as though it were acid, leaving behind terrible burns and eating away at flesh and armor alike. The EMP properties will also heavily damage unprotected machinery.
Powers:
Aquatic: Tarakona is a primarily aquatic species, gaining propulsion by shooting high-pressured water out though its abdomen. He is extremely fast in the water, though not quite as maneuverable as some other aquatic life forms. He can also walk on land, though there he moves only as fast as any normal insect kaiju.
Strength: Despite weighing only 50 000 tons, Tarakona is gifted with immense strength. He can lift a maximum of 280 000 tons, and each of his huge forelimbs is capable of lifting 100 000 tons each. Scientists believe Tarakona’s great strength is not because of muscles, but because of high-pressure internal body fluids that act like organic hydraulics.
Carapace: Tarakona is covered head to toe in tough armor, built specifically to withstand huge impacts and immense pressure.
