The Caverns are a huge underground network of caves and tunnels. The tunnels are generally very narrow, rarely more than 150 meters tall and wide. The caves, on the other hand, can be vast - as much as three-quarters of a mile wide and with ceilings several hundred meters high. All sorts of dripstone formations fill these caves, including stalactites, stalagmites, and columns. Stalactites in particular tend to be especially hazardous, as fighting monsters will often make them break off and fall to the ground below. Similarly, partial cave ins often occur during battles, but for obvious safety reasons the UCA has made complete collapses impossible. Aside from being a very damp environment in general, with small, slippery puddles being a constant nuisance, larger bodies of water are also not uncommon. Shallow pools are often found in the large caves, and there are even a few subterranean rivers and lakes. It should go without saying that monsters whose primary means of travel is flight are completely unfit for this region. The tunnels are too narrow for most monsters to even fully spread their wings. Even the large caves are even more restrictive than their overall size seems to indicate, thanks to all of the rock formations. Because sunlight obviously isn’t available for illumination, the area is lit through the use of glowing rocks. How brightly areas are lit varies greatly, with some places very well-lit, while other areas are almost completely dark.
