We've had various threads regarding who in the UCA you like the best and what not, but what about your own roster? Who in your roster do you feel is the best in each of the following categories?
Best History:
Best Design:
Best Personality:
Most Original:
Most Badass:
Please explain why each of your monsters made it into whichever spot. Feel free to go overboard if you like.
My List:
Best History: Ziz
Most of you know that Ziz, Behemoth, and Leviathan have a closely connected history. Several details about there past have surfaced from time to time, most recently in my newest hub thread. As much as I would like to, I really can’t give away why I feel that Ziz has what I think is the best history of my roster, as I haven’t finished revealing the nitty gritty details in the RPG! But if anyone is even being kind enough to pay attention, the past will eventually reveal itself.
Best Design: Talizan
I know lots would disagree with me here, but… I dunno. I dunno if its his extendable claws, his spikes, his epic tail, his solar qualities… but Talizan’s design really clicks with me. It’s hard to explain, really. It just clicks.
Best Personality: Vesica
Personality wise, Vesica is definitely my greatest achievement. She’s no ordinary hero or guardian monster, if one could even call her a hero in the first place. She’s not a villain trying to conquer earth for an alien civilization or a planet/galaxy/universe destroyer. Really, Vesica is an anti-hero, and even among other anti-heroes like Thresher or Titernia (I think Tit’s an anti-hero. Care to clarify, Dan?) Vesica is an oddity. A very common trait among anti-heroes is that they love violence. Just look at Thresher. If you pissed him off, he’s be more than willing to step on you.
But Vesica is the complete and utter opposite. She’s a pacifist. While she may not have a problem with other monsters killing people, she hates to use violence herself. If a villain were to try to destroy the planet, Vesica would try intimidation, negotiation, smart-ass talking, or anything until it became apparent that the only thing she could do would be to use violence. And even THEN, she’d be perfectly happy with a retreat or capture. Getting Vesica to kill you is seriously damn near impossible. Yet despite her dislike of violence, Vesica is still an anti-hero in every sense of the word. Heroic? Yeah right! She makes fun of that kind of stuff! If the Space Nebula M Hunters invaded, she’d probably be on their side. Well… she wouldn’t help them directly, but in her view, they’d be saving the planet from human rule, and cut down on dangerous environmental factors like pollution. Where any other heroic monster would step in to save the day, Vesica would just sit back and watch unless it was her or someone close to her who was in danger.
And Vesica’s other personality quirks? She’s anti-social, she doesn’t fear death, loves dark humor, is INCREDIBLY sarcastic, and for an anti-hero, is surprisingly light hearted. She’s easily the most distinctive personality in my roster, and the most fleshed out.
Now allow me to shut up and move on.
Most Original: Crydmarr
I could go on for ages about all the ideas I have surrounding this guy. Basically, I spent seven entire months developing Crydmarr: his personality, his design, his powers, and his origin. Crydmarr is literally fear itself, as such, I was challenged to make a big bad that didn’t merely look “epic” or “intimidating” like Recktor, Yamatano, or Arma. When one looks at them, the first thing that comes to mind is: “Cool!” With Crydmarr, I didn’t want that. I wanted Crydmarr to look dangerous. I made him a fast an agile monster rather than a towering, lumbering brute. What would you be more frightened of? A slow, very obvious, epic looking Terminator? Or a speedy, ambushing, and visually frightening Xenomorph?
I’d pick the Xenomorph.
No other character of mine has gone under as much thought process as Crydmarr did. Why was he insane? Because he was used to an entirely different plane of reality. He is fear. And fear influences us, we who live on a separate reality plane. What if a mouse caused beings in a different plain of reality to experience the emotion “mouse”? You can’t even comprehend what the emotion of “mouse” would feel like! Crydmarr is used to an entirely different perception of reality than we are. Of course, to our eyes, he appears insane. Questions like Crydmarr’s insanity lead to answers. I had to figure out how to make Crydmarr look dangerous? Long, wickedly sharp razor limbs! Everyone gets unnerved by pointed objects like knives. I had to make Crydmarr really disturbing, so I included the “Foreboding Kiss power of his tongue. Its borderline oral rape! How the hell is that NOT disturbing? His design and powers have the qualities of various common fears. Arachnophobia: eight long legs, like a spider. The fear of needles: again, needle like legs. Fear of blood and gore: the monster himself is bloody and gory! Fear of childbirth: the egg sacks. Fear of rape: again, his tongue. Fear of the dark: The arena grows dark when Crydmarr arrives. And so on and so forth.
Like I said, I could talk about this for ages, but I’m getting out of hand here. Next!
Most Badass: Suzumebachi
Suzy is, to date, the biggest monster in the entire UCA, weight wise. She’s essentially the Godzilla of my verse. She’s powerful, and kind of majestic as well. Other characters in my roster may beat her out, but she’s still the biggest and baddest of them all.
