Name: RAGU V. 3 AKA Ranger
Height: 91 meters
Length: 199 meters
Mass: 49,323 tons
Description:
The former M.A.M. mech known as the Realized Aberration Grappler Unit Version 3, or "Ranger", appears very much like a older design for the machine, a concept called the "Avenger of Mankind". The major differences are in the color scheme and arm design. Ranger is a darker, charcoal grey with navy green stripes running down his arms, legs, and helmet plate. It also has two separate functional arms with digits protected by triangular blades that act somewhat like pointed boxing gloves. The curved, axe-like blades found on the Avenger of Mankind have been placed on both arms and moved back to encase the elbows. Upon will, these blades can be brought to bare be actually swapping the directions of the arms, an act completed using dual ball-joints and a groove between them found on the innermost shell of the arms.
Ranger is a very balanced machine with equal capabilities close up and at range. It is lean and fast, able to move with shocking agility and speed. It also holds great strength, each of its limb having the power of many organic limbs of the same size, making it able to deliver hardened blows from its armored knuckles, knees, and feet. Its tail is also a dangerous melee tool, with greater reach and weight than its other blunt options. In addition to its brawling prowess, Ranger possessed wicked cutting weapons in the form of its Valkyrie Blades, Spade Guards, and the Spartan Reflective Shield too. Between these awesome abilities and weapons, Ranger is a monster in close combat, able to smash, slash, and slice foes into nonlethal submission. But the mech is also formidable at range, possessing multiple energy weapons to blast enemies from afar with both great accuracy and power.
Overall, it is a machine that does not falter in any category, though it also fails to excel in any particular method of combat. Its strength lies in the delicate balance between blunt, edged, and long ranged combat that its possesses.
Oscar Wilson, the pilot of Ranger, controls the machine through a series of jointed limbs that meet his own as hinged levers- clenching the joystick closes the fist of the mech and twisting them rotates the arms. AI makes minute adjustments to these movements and operates the legs. The gyroscopic control center of the walking weapon is located between its hips and is heavily armored enough to be considered invulnerable. The weaponry of the war machine is controlled by a mix of motion and manual control, Oscar dictating its physical movement with his own body while activating weapons with an array of switches and triggers found on and around the control sticks. The cockpit- set in the skull of the mech, like a hollow 'brain'- rotates freely, always keeping Oscar upright no matter how roughly Ranger is thrown about. If Oscar were to become too occupied or debilitated by a battle to use the manual controls, he can also engage in a series of verbal commands to operate Ranger's weaponry. The anti-kaijumachine also comes equipped with a radio link to both Sam and Alex, who act like a sort of 'ground control' for the mech and offer its pilot tactical advise derived from their military and zoological background respectively. They are alerted and transported to Ranger's hanger whenever the machine enters a fight. The small station from which they communicate with Oscar also houses a set of radio motion controls that allows them- namely Sam- to take control over Ranger if need be.
Personality:
Though Ranger is a machine and has no real personality, nor an AI that resembles one, its behavior is dictated by its pilot and his ground crew and can be considered a compromise between the three of them: tenacity and fury from Oscar, coldness and tactically from Sam, and creativity and spontaneity from Alex. Which side shows dominance in combat depends on whose expertise is being utilized from moment to moment, making Ranger a flexible, somewhat unpredictable fighter. Oscar tends to favor Ranger's melee weaponry, while Sam prefers edged attacks and Alex ranged assault.
Attacks:
-Sunrise Gauntlet: There is a rotatable ring of sleek, cylindrical auroric generators found on either of Ranger's wrists like bracelets. These circular gauntlets can spin in either direction and launch six focused aurora rays that will bore into victims swiftly and brutally like a broad drill, easily breaching flesh and even breaking armor after only a few rotations. Can not be sustained long though, as it consumes a great amount of energy.
-Spade Guards: The triangular guards that cover Ranger's hands can be used as brutal punching weapons, splitting armor and blasting holes into uncovered flesh with their sturdy, auroric steel points. Cuts with the sheer force behind the blows rather than the sharpness of their edges, so hides with extreme resilience to cutting damage can repel these bladed guards.
-Octet Tail Guard: The eight-edged blade on the tip of Ranger's tail is hard and durable, slashing into unarmored flesh like a circular hatchet. There is an extension of the machine's AE Phase Drive core housed in the center of the blade, so its edges can be charged with energy to increase cutting damage and deliver nasty burns beneath the parted flesh of foes.
-Vanquisher Blades : Often called, "V-Blades," the axelike weapons on Ranger's elbows can be brought to bear in place of its hands by use of a rotating ball joint and a long groove on the interior of the machine's arms. Though already a formidable cutting and slashing tool, the edges of the V-Blades can be charged with intense heat, forming a near molten cutting surfaces. In this energized state, they are able to carve through flesh, metal, and concrete like butter with their glowing edges (which normally look as they do here, though fiery red and orange), although it is draining on Ranger's main power core. The heated blades can even give off a powerful flare of energy that extends their reach and cutting power greatly, sometimes even throwing out twin pulses of plasma that strike like rifle shots, though this is a rare tactic, as it is the single most tiring on Ranger's AE Phase core.
-I.C. Stream Flamethrower: A powerful pair of incinerators are located in the roof of Ranger's maw. They can shoots rapid bursts of flames hot enough to melt steel and burn away flesh, although it is generally a defensive weapon to break grapples and drive foes back. Because the twin plumes have a very limited range and fuel supply, they are used sparingly.
-Angel-Seeker Missiles: A barrage of small, but powerful, missiles can be launched from hidden compartments on Ranger's back, hips, thighs, and calves. As well as packing a considerable punch considering their compact forms, each missile erupts into an extremely bright ball of fire upon impact, temporarily blinding and dazzling struck foes all while setting their forms aflame. The fluorescent flames are persistent, but are not impossible to douse through the use of water, soil, or any other form of smothering.
-Hidebuster Artillery Shots: A series of reloadable, semi-auroric, 14''/50 caliber "hidebuster" round can be fired from barrels holstered within the forearms, ankles, mandible, and waist of RAGU. These hollow, auroric steel bullets were specifically designed to tear through monsters. They are dome shaped so that they can catch and hold the energy generated by a brief auroric pulse from Ranger's core and fly through the air almost endlessly, clobbering Aberrations, UAEs, and other large entities with the kinetic force of a freight train focused into a 14'' shell. Extremely lethal, able to shred through flesh like paper and critically damage armor, but also very inaccurate and slow to reload. It takes nearly two minutes for new rounds to be mechanically inserted into barrels once they have been fired. Ranger can only carry a limited supply of rounds within its frame, so they must be used wisely or wasted.
-GB-ASC Glob Bombs: Explosive devices carrying adhesive charges can be launched from the chest and back of Ranger. These "glob bombs" spread a thick, sticky tar when they detonate, spreading their payload in a circular area almost twenty meters across.
-Laser Lash: Located adjacent to its arm-mounted hidebusters and behind its Sunrise Gauntlets, a small compartment can flip open on the bottom of Ranger's forearms and reveal a small crystal barrel. By channeling and amplifying power from Ranger's AE Phase core, this carved gem barrel can fire an extremely thin, hot laser. This light beam is so precise, a direct hit will only pass through a very small portion of a foe, so it is instead slashed like a blade, unzipping flesh and metal with its single photon edge.
Powers:
-AE Phase Drive: In the center of RAGU's chest, there is a spherical energy core that contains excited Aelio particles. This is the Aelio Energy Phase Drive, or AE Phaser. Shielded behind treated crystal so that it cannot be overexcited by outside energy sources, this phenomenal power source powers all of Ranger's weapons and movements, as well as allowing it to tap into the same interdimensional abilities that Aberrations seem to inherently have. By using the reality-breaking power of the particles to access and store mass in a pocket dimension, Ranger is, as a whole, far lighter than the near 70,000 tons of auroric steel and crystal used to create him. Theoretically, this personal dimension should also give Ranger an unlimited power supply, but it seems that the amount of energy that the Aelio particles can release at one time is limited, explaining why Aberrations are not inexhaustible. Though RAGU has a huge and constantly regenerating source of power, the extended use of its more draining abilities can cause its core to briefly depower, shutting down all of its systems and leaving it vulnerable.
-Auroric Steel Frame: Ranger was constructed chiefly from auroric steel, a unique type of metal smelted and churned by an aurora pulse-ray. This aerated the melting steel, filling it with microscopic air pockets that lighten it immensely once dried without sacrificing too much strength. Though not as dense as regular steel, it is almost just as sturdy and weighs nearly three times less. This gives Ranger a larger range of motion and increased speed without making it frail.
-Cybernetic Strength: Ranger's artificial muscle system is monstrous, giving the machine the strength to lift more than twice its weight with a single arm.
-Gyroscopic Precision: Because Ranger's balance is derived from a computer system shielded deep within his core, it is extremely difficult to knock the mech down. It has advanced self correcting abilities and a long, heavy tail to counter shifts in its weight and stance, though it is not completely impossible to floor the machine if overwhelming or continuous force is applied to its frame.
-Booster-Achieved Flight : Pale blue jet flames fired from boosters on RAGU's back, thighs, and feet allow the mech to fly, as well as move through water, as swiftly and agilely as it does across land.
-Spartan NT Reflective Shield: A gaseous sheet of energized neon stretched across the tungsten frame that can be extended from Ranger's left arm or chest forms a lightweight shield that blocks almost all energy attacks dead, sometimes even reflecting them back at their source. Cannot endure physical blows though and, because of its thin frame and shaved tungsten mesh, is actually more fragile than the rest of the machine. The immense heat of its neon coating means that it can be used as a makeshift cutting tool in times of desperation. It can carve almost as effectively as the V-Blades, though it risks collapsing every time it does so. It was not designed to endure much stress.
-DF Microlayer Beam Shielding: A thin layer of diamond microfibers coat every inch of Ranger's green-and-grey shell. This thin membrane of diamond fiber parts beam attacks completely, although this also has the unfortunate effect of exaggerating the pushing effect of beams. So while Ranger is highly unlikely to receive thermal damage from enemy rays, it can easily be bowled over by blast with even moderate concussive force.
-Shell Discharge: When Ranger finds itself in a tight spot, it can conduct a stunning jolt of electricity across its metal skin. The voltage of this shock is high enough to repel even extremely tenacious beasts, making it an effective defensive technique, but reckless overuse of this ability will damage the machine's circuitry and throw its motor control out of synch. Worse yet, if the shielding on the AE Phaser has been compromised, it can over energize the particles within, which spells the possibility of numerous unwanted effects such as erratic energy pulses, ascension to other planes of existence, or even outright detonation.
History:
Ranger was created by a paramilitary anti-kaiju organization known as M.A.M. to combat giants separately from the GAAF. Considered a vigilante of the highest degree by the GAAF and deemed an outlaw, the mech and his pilot were pursued and eventually forced to stand down. Impressed with both the machine and the skill it was operated with, Oscar and Ranger were recruited into the GAAF as lawful defenders of Earth. The fighting mech has had dealings with Kedos, the Sub-Titan, Quetzar, and most notably Rustred in the past, being something of a rival to the sentient machine.
