Name: William Oscar Wilson (AKA Oscar)
Height: 5'11"
Weight: 232 lb
Age: Mid 30's
Appearance: William Wilson, or "Oscar" as he prefers to be called, is a man of huge, solid stature, entirely muscle instead of fat. His broad shoulders and straight, crisp military stance makes him seem like a wall or fortress- something towering and strong, something that could never be broken or toppled. He has pale ginger hair cut down close to the scalp as well as a handsomely trimmed goatee that starts high on his jawline as red stubble and slowly forms into a broad swatch of short, curled locks. His eyes are soft and brown, sporting the same kind of harmless placidness of a deer or elk, but can turn into hard slivers of flint if the big Scottish pilot is made angry.
Personality: Despite his imposing silhouette, Oscar is actually quite a gentle soul, a man who, in another life perhaps, could have been a wonderful father or happy farmer. But any future he could have had in peace was ruined by the devastating entrance of giant monsters into his world, because Oscar cares more deeply for his fellow man than most do for anything at all. He rages at the thought of letting invaders to our planet, freaks of nature, or rogue children of science harm innocents, and it is this rage that propelled him through the ranks of armies and air formations and into the control sphere of man's greatest weapon against the giant creatures that plague them- Ranger. Although Oscar has no particular tendency towards violence, he refuses to stand by while others are hurt. No creature, intelligent or not, will be allowed to harm the helpless when he is around. He doesn't fight for the thrill or for money or for anything concerning himself, he fights for others- both those he knows and loves, and those who he has never met. All mankind is sacred to him.
Unfortunately, this rage for humanity hinders his efforts to protect it sometimes. Although he can be a berserker on the battlefield, leveling opponents far bigger or better armed than he is through sheer anger, he also forgets his military and self defense training when enraged, relying solely on momentum and instinct. As big as he is, he knows how to use weight to his advantage, and this property is multiplied a thousandfold inside of Avenger, but he sometimes fails to realize that his monstrous foes are as big or bigger than his warlike vessel. He rationalizes monsters as intelligent, thinking creatures, as humans. And against the bestial tactics of some giants, this is a dangerous mistake. It is not that he underestimated the monsters, it is that he perceives them as literal enemies of man, not as beings of instinct or command. He is battling a bear thinking that it is bar fight. Because of this mindset, Oscar often talks to and taunt monsters as if they can understand him, even if they cannot.
Outside of battle, Oscar is very soft spoken and likable, well known for his appearances on talk shows and television where he won over many with his uncertainty and self deprecating humor. Oscar is very genuine and actually somewhat embarrassed by his role as a national hero. He enjoys the job, but not the publicity. He hates being recognized on the street, which is hard to avoid considering how huge he is.
Oscar, despite his misgivings with monsters, is quite fond of animals, as well as children. He is a man born in a body that is entirely too large for all the activities he enjoys besides piloting Ranger.
History: As a young boy growing up on the shores of Loch Ness, Oscar had an intense fascination with monsters and mermaids and all other strains of fantasy creatures, one that rivaled that of a young Alex Shepheard. But when actual monsters began banging on humanity's door, he felt betrayed instead of thrilled. Oscar was once turned into a rogue by his rage at the monsters, breaking rank and martial law just for a shot at the monstrous bat Vanyris, but he was rescued and recruited by the paramilitary organization M.A.M. (Men Against Monsters), turned into their star member and poster child. After battling and disabling the monsters Sub-Titan and Ketos, he was cornered and ordered to back down by the GAAF. When he refused, he attacked the GAFF-aligned giant Jake and lost to the runty bruiser, his death only prevented by the interference of Quetzar. The fact that the very sort of creature that he hated and rallied against saved his life made a huge impact on Oscar, prompting him to quit the M.A.M. and join the GAAF, eventually succeeding in his efforts to merging the two after the first big Nentuson invasion. The good publicity for the GAAF monster crew had spiked after they successfully defended Orlando from the awful chimera Typhos, and M.A.M. had relented in their campaign against them and allowed the GAAF access to their research and technology- including Avenger. Although he has grown more lenient of monster activity, he is still less merciful towards them than most of his comrades, particularly Alex Shepherd.
Living Quarters: Oscar's living space looks very much like the interior of a traditional country home, its design composed solely of warm, pleasing earth tones ranging from brown to orange to cream.
Monsters and characters associated with: Oscar is the pilot of Ranger, a close friend of Alex Shepherd- who is one of the few people from his world that treats him like another human being rather than an idol- and ally to Sid, Plume, and Quetzar through the GAAF. The pilot is also known, at least through his mech if not personally, to the monsters Kedos, Fainis, Pouh-Wung, Arc, and especially Rustred, with whom the machine holds something of a rivalry. The retired Sub-Titan recognizes and despises Ranger for an attempt it once took on his life, although it does not know the pilot specifically.
