"So, I figure that since you have decided to contact me so soon, that things are going well?" The hologram before Charybdis, Diamen, and Proteus mused, her head resting on her hand. The three were in Persephone's room, away from what was happening out in the main Hub. Though Diamen was at first confused by why they had insisted on dragging him along, he figured he might as well make the best out of the current situation. Crigan had asked for them not to get involved in the current Maluvor hunt unless required, and with things at the UCA escalating, it was good to get to a place away from the rising tension . But he hadn't expected to now be standing before the hologram of the Goddess of the Underworld, and the primary catalyst of this whole situation.
"Things are going smoothly over here, Shinki." Charybdis reported. She had her eyes facing down away from the hologram, in humble respect to her master's mother. "Crigan is well aware of the Maluvor being here... and I don't think he appreciates the fact you allowed them to be here. He said that you have made a grave mistake."
"That is because you DID make a mistake!" Diamen cut off Charybdis and pointed a finger at the hologram. "You let some of the most powerful and dangerous criminals that have ever existed loose into a place filled with powerful souls for them to reap and harvest. Has that ever got into your mind, Shinki? Or were you too red in the face from Yuuka's empty threats to realize that?"
The hologram shook her head. "I guess in a way you can say that. Yes, I was angry at her, yes I was not thinking straight, and yes, I may have made a grave mistake... but rest assured, I have the utmost precautions laid out to ensure this does not spiral out of control. No one will want to ally themselves with such deranged, power hungry and destructive monsters as the Maluvor. Trust me when I say, the only soul they will be getting is Yuuka Kazami's. She wanted to pick a fight, so I gave her one she cannot win, cannot reason again, and cannot hope to survive. The real question that has my attention is... what is the son of Crigan doing at the UCA? Last I heard, you were ordered on probation after you badmouthed a superior, like you are doing right now." The hologram said, emphasizing those last words.
"If I may inject in here, Shinki." Proteus said, "He does have a point. There are many other ways you could have had Yuuka suffer, many other solutions that didn't involve the Maluvor... or alteast, letting them roam free here. I understand we are to ensure they don't go on a rampage... but still-"
"Proteus, we already talked this over. None are as qualified to see that they do not go out of hand as you two. You have the military mind and planning, and Charybdis has the muscle and power to ensure that, if the Maluvor do get out of hand, Selstar is put out of his misery."
"What is this I hear about the Maluvor?" A new voice came in, this coming from the projection. Shinki turned, a look of shock on her face as a second figure strode into view. It was an archangel like her, only male, and dressed in blue robes and toga. His hair was slightly shorter than Shinki's, and more of a silver-bluish color. His wings, unlike Shinki's dark purple and leathery ones, were pure white, and feathered. Diamen recognized him at once as Sariel, the co-ruler of Makai, and Shinki's younger brother. "That is not a subject you are light to talk about... unless they are free of their imprisonment?"
"Brother dear." Shinki said, Diamen noticing an edge of worry in her voice. "I thought you were still away with a meeting with Craefr. You are back sooner than I expected. I was merely speaking with the Elite Guard..."
"Yes, you were... about the Maluvor you let free in that galactic arena, are you not?" Sariel asked. His voice was perfectly calm and level, and it seemed... quite pleasant to the ear, yet the fact that Shinki cringed as he said that let Diamen know that this was not an archangel to take lightly. "Sister, we have been over this issue on your temper many times already, and the one time I leave, you let it get the better of you. The fairy maids told me everything, and I am very disappointed in you for your rash actions. With Minerva, it is her eagerness to please, with Bolretis, it was his lust for war, and with you, it is your anger. Could there not have been a better solution if I had presented one to you? We will discuss this matter in more detail later, but for now, let me talk to the Elite Guard for a moment... and to Diamen."
The hologram of Shinki looked down, and Diamen could see her mumbling angrily, before walking off screen. With her gone, Sariel turned to address them. "I am terribly sorry for what my sister has done. As you can tell, she is horribly tempermantal when stressed, and the last few months have been rough on her. I wish I could prevent this mess from occurring, but it is too late. Charybdis, Proteus, just do your best to keep things from getting worse. Do not assume for a moment the Maluvor will not try to gain allies. Evil always has a tendency to gather in force. You two are dismissed. Diamen, I would like for you to stay and talk."
"Yes, of course." Both replied, before leaving. Now it was only Diamen talking with the Archangel of Death. "What is it that would want to talk about? There are so many things going on..."
"Yes, there are." Sariel replied. His eyes were closed, and he had his sleeves against each other. "but I will make this brief for you. I can tell just by looking at you. You no longer resent your father. But be warned... there are dark times coming ahead for you in the UCA. I wish I was there to help, to steer that darkness away, but I must remain here, if only to keep my sister's temper in check. There are things beside the Maluvor... besides Salavance that you should be worried about. Even now, I sense this darkness is growing, and plotting."
"I will try my hardest." Diamen held his hand against his chest. "For both my father, and my mother, and for all those here, to make sure this evil does not destroy us."
"Thank you. May the Creator bless your effort." With that, the hologram cut off, and Diamen sat there, alone, in Persephone's room., contemplating what he had just been told. He had a duty to perform, a job that had to be carried out.... but there was also his father's wishes, to stay out of the fight... He sighed as he left the room, and looked out over the hallway... What could he do?
Then, he felt it. There was a soul nearby... it was in pain, great pain. He took off like a rocket, flying between the masses of giants as he locked onto the source... Was this the evil he had been told? Who was it in pain... and who was causing it?
