"Well, I guess that explains the overly-long bathroom break," Vesica replied, watching the ceiling from the comforts of the couch. She didn't know what was more insane, this avalanche of wild information or the fact that she was taking it all in rather well. Of course, that was the nature of the UCA. You stumbed across insanity in some form or another so often that you grew used to it.
She sighed, rolling her head over to look at the others, her face serious."And don't worry about Yuuka. I've experienced worse things from worse people. Forcing me to... change was little more than playground bullying. Besides..."
She turned back towards the ceiling. "You would have found out eventually."

"I suppose," murmured Alex. Vanessa... Vesica... whatever she called herself... still seemed a bit out of it, so he was hesitate to ask, but curiosity got the better of him. "Er, would you mind explaining... well, everything to us? I mean, I can imagine that you're still wiped out after taking down that... thing... and that you might not want to go into it all... it just seems like a sore spot for you is all... but I'm curious. It's not everyday that I see someone turn into a dragon."
"Dragon?" Sam was sudden tensed and stood straight up, rigid and with hands clenched into fists.
"Oh! Uh, nothing to do with Kedos or Skathe, I assure you," Alex babbled quickly. He had forgotten. Sam had just gotten here. She still didn't have the best experience with dragons to go off of.

"I guess I could…" said Vesica, visibly hesitant. "But… maybe somewhere more private, if that's okay. I mean, no offence..." She turned to look at Sam and Daimen in particular. "… but five minutes ago I didn't know some of you even existed."
She rested her head back against the couch. "It's not something I generally enjoy letting everyone know about."

"It's alright as it is." Diamen shrugged. "When you're like me and off collecting the souls of the dead, there's alot of weird and crazy stuff you run into. A girl that turns into a dragon is actually sort of tame, especially when compared to Mino-" The look Diamen got from Crigan was all he needed to be silenced. "Nevermind"
"We all have secrets we don't want others to know about." Crigan said. He could sympathize with her. He too bore emotional scars that he never wanted revealed to the world...

"Fair enough," answered Alex, seemingly in a better mood now that everything was falling back to the way it once was. It would soon be just him, Mara, and Vesica again. He looked to Sam. "Er, you don't mind, right?"
She merely shrugged, which Alex accepted with a happy grin. "Thanks."

"Well, me and Diamen best be going then. We don't want to make our guest feel akward with our presence." The god of death said, as he moved toward the door. "I'll let you guys talk about things. Mara will fill me in on the details when I get back. The Enma should be returning any minute now."
"Alright." Diamen said, as he followed his father out the door, leaving Mara with the two humans and the dragon...

After a moment, Sam followed the example of the two death gods and began moving towards the exit.
"I'm going to look for Oscar. Don't do anything stupid while I'm gone."
Alex rolled his eyes. "C'mon, have a little faith in me, Sam."
"Last time you said that," the woman deadpanned as she pushed through the door and out of the room. "You woke up a second dragon- one that could fly."

“Thanks.” Vesica closed her eyes for a few seconds, trying to decide where to begin. This wasn’t something she had ever really expected to talk about. As words started to come to her, she took a deep breath in, then exhaled. “I suppose you guys already guessed my name isn’t really Vanessa.”
She opened her eyes, looking to Mara and Alex. “I just… came up with that off the top of my head when we first met. Figured giving my allarian name would draw too much attention.”
Vesica fumbled for a moment, trying to sit upright against the backrest of the couch where she would be more comfortable talking. “I guess I generally go by Vesica. It was a name given to me by a friend, Kadrah… Although she’s also the only one that ever calls me that. I’ve been inventing fake names for most of my life. It’s nothing personal,” she quickly added. “I never meant to… push you guys away. Not after I got to know you. It’s just a safety precaution. Giving away my true name is too dangerous.”
Here she stopped, glancing around the room. “Although… this being the UCA, I guess I don’t have to worry about that anymore.” She returned her gaze to them, heart beating her chest. Although there was nothing to rationally fear now, years of secrecy and instinct were fighting against her. She took a deep breath.
“My true name - my birth name, not the one Kadrah gave me - is Adrienne. Adrienne Desmarais.”

"That is... quite the name" Mara said, taking a seat beside her. She couldn't blame the girl for making a fake name... she had done it herself, abit while not herself. Still, it made her think. Her own husband had done that to her, going under a fake name for their protection. it was a deception that had lasted 50 years, and when she had found out... well, that had been part of the catalyst that had caused so many problems over the past 300 years. Just a pizza boy named Clemortis, what a joke.
"Still, it is a beautiful name... You said you were an Allarian? Just what exactly is that?" She asked.

"Wait," Alex said, a frown coming over his face. "So I was the only one using my real name? Harsh, guys. Make me feel all left out..."
His mouth twisted into a smirk. "Could I at least use this as an opportunity to change it? I always liked the sound of, 'Gregory.' You could call me Gregor for short!"

Vesica shook her head. “No, I’m not allarian myself. Well, not directly, at least.”
Struggling to push herself up straighter against the couch, Vesica thought about her next choice of words. She had a lot of explaining to do. “The allari were a sentient species that lived really, really long ago. I mean, at least nine hundred million years ago, maybe a billion. Apparently, most of them went extinct, along with most life on Earth, and the pretty much the only things that survived were single celled organisms and a few species of large animals that got locked away under the Earth’s crust. From what I understand, some of the allari survived, and had a bunch of fancy powers like immortality that allowed them to hibernate for millions of years. Fast foreword to, I dunno, some time in the ice age. The surviving allari returned to Earth, gave up their special powers – all but one anyway – in an attempt to continue their species. That species evolved into humans.”
Vesica paused, as if going up for air. “That’s the short, short version at least,” she smirked.
“Now there’s supposedly some rare… genome… DNA… thingy, I don’t know, that contains the power the special allari once had. Pops up in a few individuals every few hundred years. Most probably go their whole lives never realizing they have it. It takes an incredibly stressful situation to activate the genome, so it’s rarely been seen in history. Might have inspired the stories of ‘witchcraft,’ though.”

Now that put Mara's brain on the backpedal. Almost a billion years ago? Good lord, how old was Kadrah? Now she was getting a mental image of the woman behind the mask being this wrinkled old hag that was Yukari's age. "That is quite a long time for a race to have existed." Mara gasped. "An entire race like that with became the forerunners of humans in your world... that is amazing. And you were one of those humans who had that special genome in you? Or is your case something else..."

"A bit of both, you could say," Vesica nodded. A frown crossed her face. "I should warn you, my... err... story gets a bit unpleasant from here. If you want me to stop now, I mean, that's alright…"

Alex, briefly pausing from the "allarian-descended witchcraft powers" test he had launched into as soon as Vesica had revealed the origin of man on her world, shook his head. "I'm sure we can handle unpleasant. If anything, we should be asking you if you want to continue or not. We don't want to make you get into anything you'd rather not relive."

Vesica rubbed her wrist in nervous agitation. “I’ll tell you what I can,” she said, averting their gaze. “I was born in Paris, 1931. Wasn’t much different than you guys – well, Alex at least, going by the fox ears I’m not sure about you, Ran… damn, sorry… Mara.” She cleared her throat.
“I was normal. Human. No shadow powers, no aether, no shapeshifting. And I had a family… two parents and an older brother.”
She was looking down at her lap now, fidgeting with the sleeves of her shirt. “There was a war.” Her voice was faint now, and Alex had to lean closer to hear. “We lost, and the city was occupied by the enemy. I was only ten. They were rounding people up… and my parents tried to oppose them. So we had children from the school… taking refuge in our house. When we were discovered…”
She couldn’t go on.
