"What do you mean she's in a battle," Ben shouted at the intercom, shortly after returning to his quarters and finding Natalie missing. "You didn't..."
"Indeed," the booming voice responded. "We can't have people snooping around in our database and not punish them. You should consider yourself lucky, considering how mild she got off. Usually we just disentigrate people like that."
"Don't you dare! You so much as touch her and I'll..."
"You'll what, Mr. Davidson? As you have doubtlessly realized, you are powerless here. Your girlfriend will be back with you shortly...if she survives that is."
"You son of a bitch," Ben snarled. If looks could kill, the intercom would be so much smking slag right now."
The voice just chuckled at his impotent rage before switching off the intercom.
---- (5 minutes ago)
"So what do you want us to do about him, sir?"
"While we can easily fix the damage to his quarters, keeping him in line in going to prove to be difficult. We can't afford to lose any more of our star attractions right now. How are the repairs coming?"
"Riptide's repairs are complete sir. Also, security sent us this video, thought you might like a look at it."
"Oh?"
"Patching it through now."
"Well, I did manage to crack open the top layer of security on their database. I haven't poked around much, but from what I can see, this place is huge. They've got people and monsters from all over the multiverse here. I did find something interesting though. They've got another mech pilot and his crew stowed away here. They're affiliated with the big croc, Suchodon."
"Interesting."
"It might be nice to have some allies around here."
"Granted the footage is from after the Elimination Chamber match, but they just now noticed it and sent it over."
"Interesting. Let's try that. Send the order out to both of them. Let's see them rage against us if they're too busy fighting one another."
---- (Now)
A column of light pierced the skies overhead and slammed into the desert floor, before fading away and revealing a newly repaired Riptide. A harsh wind blew across the wasteland, highlighting the bleakness of the landscape. Huge mesas and patches of rocky ground were the only thing to break up the monotony of the horizon. Inside the cockpit, Ben couldn't have cared less.
"I'm gonna tear those mother****ers limb from limb," he growled, remembering his conversation with the UCA personnel. "But first, I've got to beat this monster."
But unbeknownst to him, his opponent was something far more dangerous than any simple beast...

Kevin and Stella are in the middle of playing a video game (another Earth luxury provided to them by the UCA) when an announcement comes over the com in the room.
“Kevin Anew, report to the mech hangar immediately. Orion is scheduled to fight Riptide.”
Kevin groans. “Can it wait 10 minutes?”
There’s no response, not that he expected one in the first place. He sighs.
“Fine, fine.” He turns to Stella. “Guess we’ll have to finish later, huh?”
“Looks like it.”
A few minutes later, Kevin is in his pilot suit. He starts to walk out the door, but is stopped by a loud “HEY!” from Stella. He turns around, only to see Stella angrily hurl his helmet at him, which he just manages to catch.
“You were about to go out without your helmet again! This is the third time I’ve had to remind you since we’ve been here!”
“I’m sorry! It won’t happen again, I promise.”
“Uh-huh. Whatever, let’s go.”
And with that they depart for the mech hangar in the Jeep parked a short distance from their quarters.
“Riptide is the one piloted by that other human, right? Ben something?”
“Yeah.”
“How’s that make you feel? Fighting another person for the first time, let alone doing it in this place full of aliens and monsters?”
Kevin shrugs. “Kinda looking forward to it, actually. Been wanting to meet him for a while, but this place is so damn huge it’s pretty much impossible to find anyone our size. And besides,” he smiles slightly, “a human opponent will be a nice change of pace.”
Stella rolls her eyes. “Of course. And here I was thinking you might actually be upset about it. Silly me.”
Kevin chuckles.
They arrive at the mech hangar a few minutes later, and Kevin gets out of the vehicle.
“Alright, I’ll be watching you on the big screen. Good luck out there.”
Kevin waves her off as she drives away, then puts the earpieces of his music player in his ears and switches it on as he turns to enter the hangar. Unlike some pilots, Kevin can enter without a UCA escort thanks to his exceptionally cooperative attitude toward the organization. As he makes his way through the massive building toward Orion, he catches movement out of the corner of his eye and stops to look. On the opposite side of the hangar, a group of guards are accompanying a person toward Riptide.
“So that’s him, huh? Interesting.”
He continues on his way to his own mech as Ben and the UCA escort start to ascend the lift up to Riptide’s cockpit. By the time Ben is inside Riptide and the guards are descending the lift, Kevin is just reaching the one for Orion. He rides it up and climbs into the cockpit in the white machine’s chest, strapping himself into the seat as the thick armored hatch slides shut. He shuts off his music player and removes the earpieces, tucking the device into one of his pockets before beginning startup procedures. The wraparound view screen which shows the world through his mech’s eyes comes on, as well as several gauges and smaller displays for assorted data, at which point he notices that Riptide has already gone. He puts on his helmet, then straps into the armatures which translate his movements to Orion.
After a few more moments, the mech steps away from its station. A section of the wall right next to it slides out, revealing dozens of shells and ammo clips. The machine begins loading its various weapons, then once that’s done it stores several spare clips and shells on its hip armor. With that done, the section of the wall slides back into place. Kevin squeezes the hand grips on the control armatures and exhales deeply.
“Beam me up, Scotty.”
----------
A white beam of light shoots down from the sky a couple hundred meters in front of Riptide. Ben readies himself for some new monstrosity to step out, but when the beam fades he sees the white mech from the hangar that he’d first noticed months ago.
“Oh, so it’s you, huh? You’ve been giving me a feeling of deja vu for months now, you alien tin can.”
“Watch who you’re calling an alien, bucko. You might hurt someone’s feelings.”
“What the-”
“Though I must admit, I’m glad I’m not the only one that thinks this whole situation feels very familiar, right down to the setting.”

“Wait... YOU’RE the other human pilot Natalie was talking about?”
“That’s me. Why so surprised? Didn’t they tell you who you were fighting?”
“Those bastards never tell me anything.”
“Huh. Anyway, name’s Kevin. Kevin Anew.”
“Ben Davidson.”
“Nice to meet ya, Ben. Now, down to business.”
With that, Orion reaches up and grabs the Shotcannon off its right shoulder and promptly fires at Riptide. The spray of pellets slams into the mech’s shoulder, tearing into the armor and making it stumble back.
“What the hell?! You shot me!”
“...Duh. This is a match after all. Did you think I’d refuse to fight just because you’re human or something?”
Ben sighs. “I was kinda hoping, yeah...”
“Sorry to disappoint, but I’ve been looking forward to this match, and I fully intend to go through with it and enjoy myself in doing so. And that’s ignoring the whole ‘the UCA will vape our asses where we stand if we don’t fight’ part.”
“Yeah, there is that part I suppose.”
Orion works the pump on its Shotcannon, expelling the spent cartridge and chambering a new one. “Now shall we continue?”
“Not like there’s much choice in the matter.” Riptide gets into a proper fighting stance.
Inside Orion’s cockpit, Kevin smiles. “That’s what I like to hear.”
He fires the Shotcannon again, but this time Riptide is ready and brings up its Barrier Field, the shot bouncing harmlessly off the shield. However, as soon as the shield drops, Riptide is peppered with rounds from Orion’s Assault Rifle. Not willing to just take the barrage, Riptide opens fire with its Super NOVA, blasting Orion in the chest. The Imar mech stumbles back from the hit, but manages to keep its footing. When Riptide follows up with another shot, Orion rolls out of the way, dropping its Assault Rifle to work the pump on its Shotcannon again and fire another shot. This shot strikes the CEE mech on the shin, the force of the impact knocking its foot out from underneath it and making it topple over.
Orion quickly pumps the Shotcannon again to chamber another round, but instead of firing it stores the weapon back on its shoulder and picks up its Assault Rifle, releasing the spent clip once it does so. It then grabs another magazine off its hip armor and slaps it into the gun, charges it, and takes aim at the downed Riptide in preparation for firing another volley.

Ben cranes Riptide's head forwards and fires the Super NOVA, right as Kevin is getting ready to fire. The super-hot particle beam passes dangerously close to the Orion, as Kevin jukes out of the way, causing his shot to go wild. Bullets stich holes in the desert floor next to Riptide, showcasing how good Kevin's aim was. But it gave Ben the opportunity to hit the thrusters and bring Riptide to a standing position once more. As Kevin is taking aim in an attempt to empty the clip into Riptide properly this time, Ben decides to close the gap between them.
Twin blades of plasma energy erupt from between the focal arrays on Riptide's arms as the mech jets forward. Kevin fires off his burst, bullets shattering the NXT layer ina few places, put doing little to slow Riptide's advance. Kevin attempts to dodge to the right, but Ben lashes out and catches the Orion in the flank, carving a smoldering gash through the machine's armor as he passes by.
"Damn,' Kevin muttered as he checked the damage readouts. "You coulda hit something important there."
"Then you're gonna love my next trick," Ben replied, as he hit the boosters and did a quick one-eighty turn, before firing the ANECs into the Orion's back. The force of the blast alone staggered the machine, and the heat went to work warping armor plating and weapons in their path.
"You've got some impressive moves with that mech of yours. But I think you'll find mine are better," Kevin said, once he'd regained his composure, before proceeding to close the distance with Riptide. Ben tried to hit him with another blast from the Super NOVA, but Kevin's ability to handle his machine allowed him to dodge, even as the desert floor around him became pock-marked with craters and glass. Ben caught the flash of a blade a mere moment before Kevin slashed it across Riptide's chest, cleaving right through the NXT layer into the TiTun plating beneath, before he was forcibly dislodged by a Plasma Cutter to the flank.
"How the hell are you cutting through my armor that easily," Ben shouted as the two seperated from close quarters fighting.
"I'll take Monomolecular Weapons for 200 Alex."
"Nice. I don't think we ever tried to work with that sort of technology back home."
"Glad to know I've got a few toys you haven't seen before."
"Yeah. But here's a classic I think we'll both remember," Ben replied, grinning, as he fired a volley of missiles at the Orion...

Kevin counters with Orion’s vulcans, a loud buzz filling the air as the guns spew a combined 12,000 rounds per minute into the air. Most of the missiles are shot down, but a couple make it through the hail of bullets and find their mark. Seeking to press his attack, Ben launches Riptide toward Orion, Plasma Cutters at the ready. However, as the winged machine approaches, Orion does a backflip, catching Riptide in the jaw with its foot in the process. With it now Kevin’s turn to exploit an opening, he empties the rest of his Assault Rifle’s clip into Riptide’s chest at point-blank from his crouching position.
Riptide retaliates by firing its Super NOVA, but the agile Orion springs backwards and avoids it. Dropping its Assault Rifle, it then grabs the Shotcannon off its shoulder and fires at Riptide, striking it in the chest again. The Imar mech lands gracefully a moment later, stabbing its Monomolecular Sword into the ground and pumping its Shotcannon with its now-free hand. It then takes aim with the powerful weapon once again...

As Kevin chambers another round, Ben hits the boosters and comes rocketing straight at the Orion, one arm raised. A thunderous boom echoes across the wasteland as the Orion fires, right as Ben activates the Barrier Field once more. The spray of slugs impact harmlessly on the shield, leaving multiple ripples in the air before Riptide uses the other arm's Plasma Cutter to slash at the Orion's torso, leaving a smoldering wound in the machine's armor before Riptide passes by, now using the other hand to fire a titanium harpoon into the Orion's back fromt he underside of the wrist.
"What the...," is all Kevin can utter before one and a half million volts of electricity are discharged into the Orion. Ben grins to himself, thinking the Orion should be down for the count, with smoke pouring out of the wounds the machine had sustained,or some such sign. Instead, Kevin, seemingly unphased by the attack, swiftly grabs a monomelcualr knife from the Orion's hip and prepares to slice the cable in two. However, Ben is able to react in time and disengages the weapon as the blade passes through thin air.
"I liked it better when I fought fleshy targets," Ben muttered as the cable returned to its holding position, right as Kevin finishes attaching the knife to a hidden wrist wire of his own and throwing the blade at Riptide's chest. Sparks erupt from the damaged portion or Riptide's armor as the blade buries itself almost up the hilt. As Kevin begins to do the same with the other blade, Ben quickly fires off a blast from the Super NOVA. Kevin braces for impact as the high powered particle punches a hole in his armor near the shoulder, exposing circuitry and superstructure beneath.
Kevin yanks on the cable and retracts his blade, further opening the wound in Riptide's armor as the two mechs back away from each other.
'Gotta put some distance between us,' Ben thought to himself as he fired two more volleys of missiles at the Orion before backing away with retro-rockets. While Kevin managed to shoot a few of them down, the other found their mark, striking previously wounded areas to further widen the gaps in the Orion's armor. Now that there was some space between them, Ben began to charge the ANECs, hoping to nail the Orion with them as well...

Sorry for the delay. Holidays + post-holiday recovery.
----------
The ANECs fire a moment later, but Kevin nimbly dodges by leaping over them.
“Trying to keep your distance and bombard me, huh? Cute.”
Orion reaches over its shoulder and grabs the grip of the huge Sniper Rifle on its back.
“I can play that game, too.”
With that, the mech lifts the massive gun over its head and points it at Riptide, bracing the butt of the rifle against its shoulder and using its free hand to support the front half while he takes aim. Having no desire to taste what the weapon can do, Ben raises Riptide’s arm and activates the Barrier Field. An instant later, a massive round slams into the invisible barrier, causing it to warp momentarily as Riptide is rocked by the sheer force of the impact. A deafening BOOM follows a moment later, the sound traveling several times slower than the bullet itself.
Ben starts to smirk, but suddenly a large chunk is torn out of Riptide’s lower right leg, followed by another BOOM as his mech’s foot is knocked out from under it and it drops to one knee. Before he can fully process what just happened, Riptide’s left shoulder pad explodes into shrapnel and the mech is thrown to the ground on its back by the impact. A third BOOM follows a moment later.
Orion drops the Sniper Rifle and pulls its Monomolecular Sword out of the ground, and starts running toward the downed Riptide. The mech leaps high into the air and, gripping its sword with both hands with the blade pointing downward, raises the weapon over its head in preparation for skewering the other mech. Ben barely has time to react, reflexively firing off a shot from the Super NOVA. The beam is surprisingly accurate under the circumstances, and grazes Orion’s left arm and shoulder as the Imar mech hurtles downward like a meteor. The glancing shot serves its purpose, though. Orion lands, straddling Riptide as its blade stabs through what would be the top of the trapezius muscle on a human and into the ground with a metallic shriek and a burst of sparks, its aim having been thrown off by the shot it took a moment before. The mech quickly wrenches its blade free, accompanied by another shriek of metal and a smaller spray of sparks as the “wound” is widened. Taking one hand off the blade and using it to forcibly point Riptide’s face off to the side in order to prevent any further shots from the Super NOVA, Orion raises its sword once again and attempts to plunge it into its original intended target: Riptide’s chest.

The Orion's grip is strong enough to keep Riptide's head turned, and the mech's position makes it impossible ot hit with either the ANECs or Hydra missiles. Not to mention that one arm is pinned beneath the Orion's knee. Fortunately, Ben still has another free hand. As the Orion's blade comes down, Riptide's left arm close between them as the monomolecular blade clashes with the bladed focusing array. Even the cutting power of the weapon has difficulty breaching the NXT sheathe coating the focusing array, as Ben beats back the Orion's strength momentarily, before activating the Plasma Cutter and slicing it along the Orion's midsection. The plasma blade cuts deep, tearing through the outer hull and leaving smoldering edges in its wake.
Kevin, in turn, is forced to rethink trying to skewer Riptide, lest the same thing happen to him. He quickly releases his grip on Riptide's head, only to slam the fist back down again, cracking the covering over one of Riptide's eyes as well as leaving a nasty dent in the armor, before shoving himself off the saurian mech. Ben then takes advantage of the fact that the Orion is no longer straddling him and hits the boosters. However, rather than return to an immediate standing position, he flys backwards along the ground for a few dozen meters before finally lifting off and rolling over. Meanwhile, Kevin is prepping to start in again with that massive sniper rifle of his.
Ben needed a new angle of attack. He quickly scanned his surroundings before he spies something, nearly half a mile off, that will serve just nicely. With his goal in mind, Ben dives and hits the burners, now aimed directly at the Orion. Kevin is hurrying to get in position, when Ben begins to fire. The electric blue of the Super NOVA combines with the brilliant green of the ANECs as the three beams streak towards the Orion. Kevin is forced to correct his position, and, in those few seconds when he's not shooting at Riptide, Ben makes his move.
Riptide slams into the Orion at high speed with a deafing CLANG of metal on metal, before the smaller mech is carried forward by Riptide's momentum. The CEE mech's talons grip the Orion's arms, keeping them pinned for the short duration of the flight. Kevin struggles ot free himself, then notices that the collision warnings are still going off, as he turns to look behind him. What he sees is a rather large rock formation jutting out of the desert floor. He only has a fraction of a second to register this before the Orion slams into. A thunderous boom shakes the desert as a plume of smoke and dust rises into the sky around the impact site. When it clears, the Orion is nearly buried inside the rock formation, while Ben is extricating his machine in preparation to continue the fight. Althugh he suspects that destroying the Orion's sniper rifle might bring the wrath of the arena moderators down on him, distancing it from its owner proabably won't, as he grabs the rifle from the Orion's grip and tosses a few dozen meters away.
Inside the rock, Kevin begins to try and remove himself before anything else goes wrong, when his machine is struck by a beam from the Super NOVA, which widens the gap left by the Plasma Cutter earlier. With his opponent momentarily at his mercy, Ben decides ot let him have it with both barrels, as he begins to charge the ANECs for firing...

Kevin groans inside the cockpit.
“Ow.”
With his mech still partially buried in rubble, he’s unaware of Riptide charging its ANECs. The rubble actually provides a bit of protection to Orion when the twin green beams strike, but not much. The attack does have the benefit of blasting away the rubble covering his mech, though, allowing Kevin to see again. And what he sees is Riptide charging up another blast from the ANECs, this time adding in the Super NOVA for good measure.
Orion flips out of the way, just managing to avoid the trio of beams. Riptide fires the Super NOVA again, but the agile mech weaves past it and lunges forward and buries its knives in either side of Riptide’s lower torso. Before Ben can retaliate, Orion rips the blades out and delivers a powerful thrust kick to Riptide’s “gut,” sending the CEE mech flying backwards.
Wasting no time, Orion rushes forward as well, sheathing its knives as it does. Grabbing the stumbling Riptide by the head, Orion pulls down while simultaneously lifting its knee. A trio of loud clangs follows as Orion’s armored knee guard impacts Riptide’s face. On the third strike, Orion releases its grip on Riptide’s head, allowing the force of the blow to send Riptide toppling over backwards with fresh dents on its face. Orion then reaches down and grabs hold of Riptide’s foot. With a heave, the Imar mech lifts its opponent off the ground and begins swinging it around. After several rotations, Kevin releases his grip, sending Riptide hurtling toward another nearby rock outcropping, hoping to return the favor from a few moments ago.

Ben hits the thrusters again, but is unable to completely stop. Instead, he merely reduces the overall impact as his machine also collides with a rocky outcropping. Although the machine's wings absorb the bulk of the impact, there is still quite a bit of damage. As Ben pulls his machine out of the rock, he disengages the wings, causing them to remain behind. He won't need them for this fight. Suddenly, he notices that Kevin has unholstered yet another gun, this time a strange looking device with a trio of prongs around, what he assumes to be the barrel.
"You're packing more heat than Burt Gummer," he calls out while trying to get his machine to stand once more.
"I'll take that as a complement," Kevin replied, before firing his weapon. A crackling yellow mist erupted from between the prongs on the XDEW before striking Riptide in the leg. However, rather than simply melt the TiTun plating, it seemed to be absorbed by something. Specifically, the NXT sheathe that covered Riptide's outer hull was doing its job. Kevin was about to fire again, just to make sur eit wasn't a fluke, when Ben rocketed forwards, slicing into the Orion's side with an extended Plasma Cutter as he passed by, before looping around and hitting the orion in the back of the the left leg with the Super NOVA.
The Orion drops to one knee as a volley of missiles slam into the machine's back, tearing into armor plating and leaving a few nice holes for Ben to exploit with his next attack, which is another triple shot from the ANECs and Super NOVA...

Kevin manages to roll out of the way of the trio of beams, grabbing the Shotcannon off his shoulder in the process. He quickly lines up a shot and fires, striking Riptide at the base of its right shoulder and tearing into the armor. Rushing forward, Orion drops its Plasma Rifle and pumps the Shotcannon to chamber another round, even as Riptide unloads with a volley of missiles. The missiles hit home, but Orion continues forward undeterred despite the fresh damage.
The Imar mech launches itself into a flying side kick, which connects squarely with the stunned Riptide’s head. In a testament to how tough the mech is, its head remains attached to its neck despite the incredible impact, which sends it flying backwards before crashing back down and skidding a few hundred meters across the desert floor, its snout noticeably scrunched.
Orion continues forward, planting a foot on Riptide’s chest to pin it down before firing its Shotcannon point-blank into the CEE mech’s stomach. The close range shot delivers the full devastating power of its load, tearing a gaping hole in the machine’s armor. Orion pumps the gun and takes aim again, this time pointing the barrel at Riptide’s head.
“Check.”

The desert wind whistled around them as Ben tried to find a way out of this. Kevin was good. His machine was fast and packed enough of a wallop to make the best use of it. And right now, he had Ben practically dead to rights. If he tried to fire back, he would likely loose both primary visual sensors and the use of the Super NOVA. But, if he could direct where he took the blow...
With few options remaining, Ben sighed and heaved Ritpide to one side. Kevin fired the moment he saw movement and the pellets from the Shotcannon tore into Ritpide's head, lacerating armor along one side of the mech's face, but not shorting out the visual sensors...or the Super NOVA. The sudden movement had also unbalaced the Orion, as Kevin tried to roll with it rather than end up on his back. Instead, however, he got a Plasma Cutter through the leg. Sparks flew as the searing hot blade cut into circuits and hydraulic muscles, leaving the Orion momentarily crippled as Riptide rose to a standing position.
Kevin tried to reach for a monomolecular blade, but was quickly blasted by a combination of the Super NOVA and ANECs, the sheer force of the blast tearing armor plating loose and throwing the Orion over onto its belly. Ben then hit the thrusters, rising into the air as Kevin tried to pick his machine off the desert floor, before 120,000 tons of machine (give or take a few) crashed into the Orion from above, leaving a nasty crater behind. Ben launched Riptde back a few paces to keep his machine out of the Orion's reach before leveling the ANECs at the fallen mech.
"My turn..."
