I decided a thread to discuss just how you got your ideas for your monsters. What inspired your monsters? How dis you get ideas for your monster's powers or abilities. This thread also applies to human (or otherwise) characters not meant for arena matches. Talizan: When I first joined the UCA, I played around with placing a few of my original monsters from my fan fic in the works: Dawn of the Kaiju. I originally planned on putting Dotoryuu, a dragon kaiju with fire abilities into the UCA. However, his signature ability, an aura that nullifies an enemies special powers (atomic breath, regeneration, telepathy, poison pollen, beams, lasers, super sonic flight, etc) would be rather unfair in the UCA, so I decided I couldn't use him. So I came up with an alternative. I would make a second dragon kaiju with fire abilities. I decided on making it prime for melee combat, and decided to have it decorated with many spikes and spines, as well as a multi-purpose tail. I chose extendable wings with energy membranes not just because they looked cool, but because it would help avoid damage done to the wings. It would also give Talizan more maneuverability during melee combat. The extendable claws idea was inspired from a monster called a Vraal (or something like that) in a childhood book series called Deltora Quest. Here is a picture of the Vraal: photo.goodreads.com/books/1328868261l/573918.jpgIt's quite simple to explain the idea behind his origin story. I like Ghidorahs. Over time, I've come to enjoy Talizan so much, that I'm actually considering on making my own universe centred around him. He has become my favourite UCA fighter. I'll get to my other monsters later. But what about you guys? How did you create your monsters?

With my original five (Drakia, Quetzar, Ketos, the Sub-Titan, and Fenris), I literally sat down and drew them off of the top of my head when I found this site. The only one that has gone through any significant change is Subsy, who I altered a bit to further him from a very similar mole kaiju. Their powers were just as spontaneous. Made 'em up as I typed their bios for the site.
I came up with Pouh during a boring math peroiod. Just doodled this weird punk dragon thing, and fell in love with it. Within two days, Pouh was born. Since he looked a bit like the Five Children of Heaven and Earth, a group of five elemental dragon-like guardians, from my 'verse, I based his powers and origin/history off of them.

Asmodeus- The idea for the cosmic destroyer came quite a while ago, on a forum far, far away... (Danzilla knows, however...) There, was a topic dedicated primarily for fighting, which was what ahppened, but also, strange events took place, like characters from other universes showing up with no logical explanation? So i decided to myself, "Hmmm... how to explain this?" The answer came to me in the form of an entity far more powerful than even the Ruler of Hell, who created said universe in particular as a form of amusement. For her name, I choose from one of the 7 Sins, and her appearance... well, I like Vocaloid, okay? An entity born from the creation of the cosmos, surpassed by none, who limits her own power for her fun...
Crigan- This guy, I had thought up quite a few years back, and also for the sake of a story. The connection between him and Mara, one of a perfect marriage gone sour, was something I was slightly eager to try out. He's had a harsh life until this point, taking on events and horrific circumstances that would put even the most devoted lover into insanity. At first, I wasn't planning on bringing him over here, but when I brought Mara over, I knew I'd have to bring him over as well, to continue on his story...
In terms of design, my characters are always based off other stuff, since my artwork... is very, very bad. Personality-wise, however, is where I can sorta shine through...

Now THIS is a curious topic for me.
Lets see... Well I always been into Kaiju. Always. Since I was 5 and saw my first Godzilla movie, Godzillas Revenge... Yeah, crap movie, but it hooked me.
Years gone by, shit went down and all that... About my last few years of Highschool I got into drawing and eventually made up my first Kaiju Ever!
..Sadly, that was the worst thing I probably ever did Kaiju wise. SHE, was a K-Girl. But the funny part is that I NEVER hear of K-Girls before. Ever. I never really put the idea together to make a female monster and have it being erotic... really, I didn't. Kira was sort of this tragic character who was shunned by humanity after being born, since she was a monster... Thus turned on humanity and even ate humans. She was basically Gaira, but a aquatic lizard. She also had a sister which was sort of like Sanda... Anyway, some months later I introduced her to Role Play which I was really into at the time... And when Myspace was still cool. Eventually I found a forum place, much like this one, controlled by Pyatt. Only kaiju I got, I introduced Kira-Ryu(her full name) and her daughter, Kyra-Ryu.
Well one thing led to another... and by one thing led to another, I mean I met The-Great-MM. Now I had no idea what a K-Girl was, let alone it being such a bad thing. First battle was with Rosie and Carcharius... and, well, MM voiced and showed his opinion. Rosie... raped... Kira... pretty much >.>
well I also got banned from that site.
After that, it was a slow climb back uphill. K-Girls, I knew what they were then.. .and that many people did not find fancy with them. Well I didn't know! I still feel a tad unfairly treated, but... whats done is done. MM is a damn good friend, and so is Pyatt, DH and several others I met on that forum. Kinda funny how such a horrific meeting turned into something better.
Anyway, after the whole Kira and Rosie fiasco, I began working on new ideas. Slowly of course... I decided to start with my favorite group of animals. Dinosaurs! But not just dinosaurs. I liked Crocodiles too. Naturally I feel into line with making a Spinosaurus kaiju. You know her! YOU LOVE HER! Even MM adores her, SHE IS VASTRATOOOOOOOO~~~~~ Well back then Vastrato was much, much bigger more of a villain that plagued humanity. And SHE, was a he at the time. I was new back then and so was making all monsters. Soon to follow was another favorite subject. Norse mythology. I connected Vastrato to be The serpent of Midgard, and made a homage to King Kong and the gargantuas. Thor! Most loved that too, oddly. Fenrir wolves came too, but even now they are overlooked sadly enough.
I was on a roll. After Vastrato came the homages to Tyrantis and the Spinonyx. Tyrannosonitus and the Nychus. Tyrantis was the firs guy I EVER met who made his own monsters. Something I never even even conceived before for all my love of sci-fi. Even before MM. Funny how I met him too... I ran into an art thief on Myspace and came finding him, learning that the myspace Tyrantis was NOT him. Hilariously enough, others came later. Big Green is famous, Y'all. I digress... So that story kicked off. Rosie and Tyrantis both made cameos in the stories that followed them monsters. But I realized I needed to make some original stuff and not ride on others success and make homages all the time. Things kicked up!
More thinking and I took and idea from a mentally challenged friend. Bradlee... to this day, I don't visit Bradlee anymore... why? he almost got me arrested over a role play story... true story. 15 hours of community service. Damn you Bradlee... But anyway, you know Crypt Dragons and Hera. That's where she came from. But also, I made Grimm for the first time. And Slor. There were many Slor monsters though. Hera killed them all except one.
Going on still, things really slowed. I made Xenus, Gabriel and Charmy! Another arc that most know. All three were mostly successful creations. Charmy is still iffy, though...
Pauly and Oko came separate after. Bears were okay.. and I liked octopus's enough.
I sort of made a climax to the series... kinda... I made Typhoon. His idea came from Starfox 64, the monster cyborg named Goras from planet Titania. ancient alien nanomachines crashing to earth and laying under the ice. Taking the form of a horrible figure... But also Jesse was created. Always moved Mosasaurs. Adored them. But I also made Bubba and Phenoraixa. Whales were big... a big monster of one was just perfect to make. Not that many existed. Save for the whole Gorjira joke... Phenoraixa came from my fair adoration of Mythology. What a battle it turned out to be.
Shairka was the last monster I made before things shut down on my end. She was more of a monster for Shark Week that just exploded into my own stories and well, I don't regret a moment of it.
Everything came to a halt... Nothing new. The came Kaiju All Stars. Having a taste already, my muse sang! Old faces came in, and new ones with it. KAS really refined my methods. Still going onto this day too.
Eventually I revamped my old stuff not too long ago. Over a year ago by now. Vastrato came back as female and Dawn of Monsters sky rocketed with great success. Save for the second arc going downhill slightly, its still a project. Some older ideas will come back too. Like Kira.(points) ...don't.. say.. a..word... I got a good plan in mind. Don't ruin it for me. Plus new stuff too that is sure to blow minds.
Here I am now though recalling on my experiences as making kaiju. I basically follow my general likes and dislikes... and I like a lot of animals and myths. I usually follow the pseudo-science we already got. Aliens, possible survivors of old, and of general Sci-Fi formula. Just add water. But what people and what I want tend to collide violently. Many people urge me that a real monster is this and that. But its hard to follow both at once... so I wing it usually. A sketch, get some advice... and my general wants.
That's basically my story. Winging it. So.... I guess that's it.

Neo-Spacegodzilla: My oldest creation. Made way back on July 16, 1999, he was originally called Super Spacegodzilla. Back then, he was essentially just a larger Spacegodzilla (200 meters) with a Corona Pulse and Spiral Corona beam. I'm sure you can imagine what those basically did. He was also a good guy.
The reason for the large size was because each "generation" of the Heisei era saw an increase in height. Super SG, like all of my creations from that time, were a sort of "3rd Generation" of the Heisei era (with G'84/GvsBio being the 1st Generation and GvsKG-GvsD being the 2nd Generation). The now-fully-grown Godzilla Jr. would have been something like 160 meters.
With the creation of the Kaiju Wars: New Dawn RPG by Omegarex in 2005, I decided to revive him. I tweaked his appearance and powers, and renamed him Neo-Spacegodzilla, thus resulting in the kaiju you all know today.
Suchodon: Suchodon is the 2nd oldest of the monsters in the Infernoverse roster (only Scorpius is older). He was first created at an RPG called Godzilla: Future Destiny that MM and I ran in mid- to late-2006. In it there was a class of smaller monsters called bioweapons which were created by the respective factions by splicing various creatures together. Suchodon was a combination of Suchomimus, saltwater crocodile, Gila monster, and Nile monitor. I don’t really remember how much I actually did with him there, but apparently I liked him because I used him at several subsequent RPGs. His overall design has changed very little since his original creation, but I’ve tweaked his gene donors somewhat over time. I dropped Suchomimus for obvious reasons, and changed saltwater croc to alligator and Nile monitor to Komodo dragon. At some point (I think early 2009, for Pyatt's RPG), I added ostrich to his gene donors, because that justifies his theropod body design much better than “the scientists turned a combination of 3 slow moving quadrupeds into an agile biped by further messing with the DNA.” He stayed as a gator/Komodo/Gila monster/ostrich hybrid until late 2009 when it was found that Komodo dragons were actually venomous. So then I dropped the Gila monster from his donors because it was redundant. While his design hasn’t changed much, his personality has grown and evolved tremendously, with his role becoming more and more prominent to match. With the creation of Pyatt's Daikaiju: The Shadows of Darkness RPG in early 2009, I decided to make Suchodon my main monster, and to build my own anti-kaiju organization as well. In fact, Pyatt’s RPG really served as a sort of testing ground for a lot of my ideas that have ultimately gone into the Infernoverse. Also, in case anyone's curious, Suchodon means "crocodile tooth."
Orion: Around mid-2009, the Infernoverse was starting to seriously shape up, and I was feeling the need to add a mech to the roster. In doing so, I also wanted to make it something of an homage to the Real Robot anime genre. I had also just recently rewatched the Full-Metal Panic series, so I ended up drawing pretty significant inspiration from the mechs in that, especially the Arbalest. Orion's control system is pretty blatantly ripped off from it, really. Of course, Kevin's creation was directly linked with Orion's, since I needed a pilot. Once again Pyatt's RPG served as the testing ground for the two of them, and in the process they actually fed off of each other in a way. Because of that, Kevin is now ironically my strongest character despite originally being something of an afterthought.
Pavoroc: Pavoroc was created around mid-2009 out of a need to give my roster another truly good kaiju, since the vast majority up to that point were neutral and essentially act like overgrown animals. I’d been toying with the idea of a hawk kaiju for some time before that, since my roster also lacked a dedicated flyer. Then one day I was watching some show on Discovery Channel where some people were capturing feral peacocks down in Miami. A lightbulb went off in my head and I thought how hilariously badass an eagle-peacock kaiju would be. And thus Pavoroc was born. His name comes from Pavo, the genus name for peafowl, and the Roc, the legendary giant eagle. Shortly after I created him, I began using him at Pyatt’s RPG, and he quickly became one of my favorites of my monsters.
Dragus: The initial concept for Dragus literally came to me spontaneously while waiting outside one of my classes in November 2009. I had like 20 minutes between my previous class and that one, and there were a bunch of chairs lined up along the wall in front of the classroom for people to sit and study or whatever. So I'd basically just go there after my first class and wait for my next class to start. Anyway, I was sitting there with my eyes closed, just kinda spacing out, and this image of a dark purple retrosaur with white spots on its back literally walked across my mental "screen." Beyond those basic features, it didn't really resemble what would ultimately become Dragus (no horns, head was completely different, plantigrade feet, and obviously no powers). For a long time I debated giving him an extendable frill like a frilled lizard, but ultimately decided against it.
Heavyclaws: I made Heavyclaws back in late 2007 as a counterpart to MM's King Claw. His name is derived from Heavyarms, which is a Gundam loaded down with ridiculous amounts of weaponry. His goofy, over-the-top personality didn't come about until much more recently, though, when I decided he would become a sort of loving parody of the Super Robot anime genre (as a contrast to Orion's straight homage to the Real Robot genre). Fun fact: Heavyclaws started a whole series of "Claws" by other people - Space Claws by Pyatt and Keizer Claws by Omegarex. MM and I still joke about making Bio-Claws and Clawga. In case you don't follow the joke, King Claw = Godzilla, Heavyclaws = Mechagodzilla, Space Claws = Spacegodzilla, Keizer Claws = King/Keizer Ghidorah, Bio-Claws = Biollante, and Clawga = Orga.

Oh man. Hold on… Rosie: Sometime ago, while I was at Inferno Rodan’s old Arena, I was busy making monsters. Almost daily, new ideas came to me. One of these ideas I sketched was a bipedal walrus with a Mohawk. Naturally, IR (and nearly everyone else I showed the picture to or described the monster to) scoffed at it. I went ahead with the monster, gave it a badass, brawling attitude and a… scientific name: Rosmarus Maximus. Sooner or later, the name was shortened to just Rosie. In an ironic twist, Rosie became one of my most well known, respected, and feared kaiju at the RPG and he quickly began a star of my roster. I should also mention that walruses are my favorite animal, so making a kaiju one wasn’t too hard for me. Thresher: I like sharks. I like kaiju. I always wanted a shark kaiju, but they were so damn overused. I had also always wanted a swordfish kaiju. As my roster expanded years ago, I combined shark and swordfish to create a unique kaiju that would become the Thresher of today. This monster wasn’t very unique or memorable… until I decided to get rid of Gigan from my roster. For those that don’t know, my Gigan was equipped with nanobot hands that allowed him to morph them into any weapon. I placed these nanobot hands from Gigan onto Thresher and also gave him enhanced psychic abilities, creating a near-unstoppable force of a monster. Thresher became my new Gigan, so to speak. I gave him a cold, but ruthless personality… and he became a hit, both with me and my co-RPGers and kaiju makers. Taninim: Angler fish have always been a favorite of mine and when IR started up the Arena, I decided to make an angler fish. Pretty straight forward, right? Well no. When I started my first real story with him, readers loved how he accidentally stopped a terrorist attack on NYC by rolling over onto the terrorist in his sleep. This launched him into super heroism where I gave him a complete makeover, turning him into a non-campy 1970’s Godzilla-inspired kaiju. However, overtime, Taninim’s design has changed. The original was much more fish-like in appearance with a rounded skull and stubby jaws. As he became more well known, I brought about a more traditional dinosaur-like face, glowing fins, and bioluminescent bulbs. Darklore: Years ago, I had “hired” DinoHunter2 (of DA fame) to help me create demons for a story I was writing called Deadly Alliance. One of these demons was a General, which appeared to be a gigantic shadow-like ghost shrouded in bone armor. I loved it so much that this nameless demon became Darklore. He didn’t do much in the story, but overtime, he became something else. At DA, I was shortly featured as a “demonic bounty hunter dressed as a cowboy” searching for renegade demons… a story I’d like to forget about. Now he’s back to his complete evil, no nonsense self. While he started off as a minor character, Darklore has blossomed into one of my toughest kaiju. The Hessian: I stand by my statements that every series needs a good mech. I was no exception. At IR’s Arena, I burned through many before settling on the Hessian, which was virtually a picture of a robot I found online and made a move list for. This remained as the Hessian for a long time until I grew tired of simply having stolen a design. Thus, I began to redesign him. He went from a sort of “mode shifter”, having three battle modes… which I didn’t care for… to what he is today. I took elements of the original picture I had used and incorporated my own originality to it. The only thing the original design and the current have in common is the huge cannon on the back. Scrambles: Don’t know why, but one day at work, I began thinking of how hilariously awesome a chipmunk kaiju would be. I couldn’t get it out of my head and the idea got even more bizarre after I saw a picture of a tree grinder on the internet. My head was spinning “what if something had those for a mouth”!? That idea was then put on the chipmunk… and the idea just skyrocketed. The name came from an episode of Metalacolypse, which you can see here. www.youtube.com/watch?v=0YRNQSb_AHs. Me and IR were watching the episode at the same time when one of us had the idea of giving the chipmunk the name of Scrambles.

I always thought Scrambles was a beaver!
Anyways, on to my kaiju:
Kori Kahn: THE original kaiju of mine. Created way back in the golden year 2004 in anticipation of Final Wars being released that year. I originally created him as a nemesis to Godzilla, awoken as a spirit of destruction to slay the king of the monsters. In more recent years, he became more of a protector of the earth, before he became the blood knight he is today in the UCA.
Ferrum Magnus- Another oldie of mine, this robot had numerous appearence changes before I finally decided on the "squat robot with mace arms". Somewhat inspired by the guardian robots in Metal Arma, I've always thought "why is there always humanoid and dinosaur robots? Why not some weird looking robot instead?" Ta-da, Ferrum Magnus was born.
Auroros- A recent creation of mine, born in the year 2010 as an antagonist in one of my old stories that never came into being. Ironically, he eventually became probably the single most heroic creature in my entire rosters, despite originally being a villain. This guy was also scheduled to appear in the "Super Hero RPG" as an enemy to my "Dark but not Evil" character, Mortum, but so far, that has not come into inception yet.
Gorgo- I have always loved Gorgo, even when I was a little kid. I'd watchthese trailers on an old VHS tape of the original Godzilla movie (long dead tape, might I add), and always looked forward to seeing this trailer. As I grew older, I couldn't help but notice the fact that Gorgo had basically been forgotten by the modern culture. So recently, I decided to give him a second life here at the UCA as a legacy character.
Armageddon- Originally, he was going to be a rebirth of Destoroyah, but I decided against that in favor of a werewolf monster! His appearence is somewhat inspired by the skyrim werewolf, and though his shroud effect was originally a nod to an older character of mine named "Pandemonium", the cloudy mane quickly became inspired by the Hungry Deviljho from Monster Hunter G. I always found darkness beings interesting, so I decided that I should make one.
Ontslaan- Basically, I saw the Lambent Berserker and went "Holy Shit that thing's badass!" But really, my idea of having something big and muscular that chases bpeople down got inspired by the original Gears of War, where you're trapped in the tomb with a berserker.

How I created my monsters... by using my imagination. Then using a pencil to draw them.
Just kiddin', here ya go:
Gadon: 'tis all started with Togera of War of the Monsters, me friends. I've always been interested in dragons/monsters (ignoring the sexist comments my family made about that) and I remembered how I wanted to create one of my own. It was only with the release of Godzilla Unleashed that I did create a few monsters, after diving into kaiju even more. One of them, you guessed it, was a spiny retrosaur with wrist blades named Gadon. The arm blades and spines (the toxic fire, as well) were an obvious hommage to Togera, while the monster itself was also a hommage to Godzilla (mostly based on the Final Wars design). Eventually, a few years after his creation, I decided to turn him into some sort of bio-weapon made by a race of tusked reptilian aliens (the Gydranics) wanting to erase the human race, as they see them as a nuisance to the planet's well-being (their own planet has been stricken with disease due to their neverending war with another alien race living on their planet - the Ledrians - and obviously they don't want that to happen with their newly found place to live). They also wanted to use him and some other monsters to erase the Ledrians as well (they are ancient enemies). He is tossed via some sort of probe into space, headed towards Earth, and eventually crashes in a lake in Canada. 23 years later he is awaken and defends Earth from baddies, taking Earth as his new homeworld and protecting humanity, believing they are worth fighting for.
I didn't want him to be the usual so sweet looking hero, so instead I went the "darker and edgier" route. The other reason why he's basically a walking pincushion is that he's a bio-weapon. Plus you know how I like me spikes!
Geogorath: Hmm, his inspiration was the Deep Sea Monster Raiga. I thought this guy was awesome and wanted to make him a little hommage. The rest came along, Geo was in a seperate kaijuverse as Gadon however, but I decided to toss him into the Gadonverse in the end.
Kasai Yogan: I just wanted to try making a monster regrouping the common traits of my monsters: tusks, lots of spines, tail weapon, large claws... and thus teh Kasai was born. The color scheme was sort of an accident; was simply trying to make blood dripple from the jaws and realized red and white was an awesome color scheme. It looks like blood-stained snow, like something good that went corrupted. Not sure where the hemokinetic powers come from, I simply tossed that idea for the heck of it and found it awesome. I decided it was going to be a female because, really, I only had something like 4... on 26 monsters.
Ganter: Nothing much to say really, simply an arch-nemesis to KY. His bluish colors contrast Kasai's red.
Gammashock: Actually a reboot of an old character of mine. *silence* ... the teeth are a reference to the Evangelion... and that's about it.
