As Pavoroc sits on his perch, eyes closed, the voice of the UCA suddenly comes through the speakers.
“Pavoroc! Your next battle is scheduled to begin shortly, report to the volcanic area now.”
The bird’s eyes slowly open.
“And my opponent?”
The monitor above the forcefield door of his quarters comes to life, showing a picture.
“Your opponent is the champion, Fenris.”
The corners of Pavoroc’s mouth curl upwards. The hellhound is one of the monsters that he’s been wanting a shot at for some time now. He hops off his perch, gliding over to the teleporter pad. Lifting one taloned foot up, he presses a button and then pulls the lever to activate it. The pad hums to life, and a moment later he vanishes in a flash of light.
He reappears in the volcanic region of the planet. He surveys the area, looking for his opponent. When he can neither see nor sense the hellhound, he figures she hasn’t arrived yet and turns his attention to the battlefield. The sky is completely covered by black storm clouds, which occasionally flash from lightning within. Despite the cloud cover, it isn’t dark, as the red-orange glow from distant eruptions and rivers of lava dimly lights the area. There’s no vegetation at all, and the ground is entirely rock.
With a flap of his wings, Pavoroc takes off. He circles, then lands on a nearby rock outcropping to wait for his opponent to arrive.

The avian guardian doesn't have to wait long. Only moments after he settles comfortably on his perch, a second beam of light flashes into extistence. Eagerly leaping forth from her quarters, Fenris arrives! She looked just as nightmarish as usual, although a few new scars were visible through her dark pelt. The most notable of these scars were a raised slash across her wolf snout and a large patch of bare, bumpy flesh on her stomach. Both were from Neo-SpaceGodzilla's deadly crystals. All four heads sweeping around to survey her surroundings, the canine chimera smiles. It's not her usually grin, a toothy display of her sadistic streak, but an actual smile. This place pleased the hellhound. It reminded her of her homeland. Her 'personal quarters' here were a fairly good imitation for what amounted to a prison cell, but nothing was like the true chaos of an area like this.
"Ah, you're here. I've been looking forward to this."
Eight pairs of eyes whip around to focus on Pavoroc. Venom yellow orbs narrowing, Fenris curls her lips. Her wolf head licks its chops, her dragon heads click their fangs together, and her snake tail hisses and spits. Together, their joint consciousness takes in the feather champion. The bird was noble, confident, and had a special glint in his eyes that Fenris had seen in many other worthy foes. Death's Bride suddenly smiles again, the same nasty grin that had graced her muzzle countless times. Rearing to her hind legs, the devil dog howls at Pavoroc.
He was perfect for her next victim.
Hunkering down, Fenris let all of her maws yawn hungrily. He would be delicious tenderized and roasted.

As soon as the signal is given, Pavoroc is airborne. Rushing straight toward Fenris, the hellhound instinctively ducks as he passes mere feet over her. Shrieking like a hawk, Pavoroc flaps his wings and banks, keeping his eye on the snarling dog. He slowly circles his opponent, while she turns in place to keep him in front of her.
After completing two full circles, Fenris has had enough. She launches a Hellfire Blast at Pavoroc, but the bird rolls and dodges the sphere of energy, then retaliates with his wing lightning. The bolts strike their target, making Fenris howl in pain. Seizing the opening, Pavoroc rushes in. He flies over Fenris again, this time snatching her tails in his talons and dragging her with him. After dragging her a couple hundred meters, he veers to the side, slamming Fenris sideways into a massive boulder. Pavoroc releases his opponent’s tails and continues flying, quickly swinging around for another pass.
As Pavoroc approaches, Fenris suddenly springs to life, swiping him across the chest with her Molten Slash. The guardian squawks and veers away. The hellhound presses her attack, launching a Hellfire beam at Pavoroc, but once again the bird nimbly dodges. He then whips around in mid-air, nailing Fenris with his Rainbow beam and blasting her through the boulder which she’d been slammed against moments before. Pavoroc hovers for a moment, eyeing his half-buried opponent. He’d underestimated her once already, he doesn’t plan on doing so again. So instead of risking another close encounter, he charges up his Rainbow beam to its maximum and fires it at Fenris.
----------
OOC: Just for future reference, would Pavoroc be able to capture Fenris' Shadow Swipe and Shadow Jaws? 'Cause he's not actually blocking the energy with a shield or anything, he's manipulating it.

(I suppose so.)
An instant before she would have been blasted by the technicolor beam, Fenris exploded into action. Tucking in all her usually flailing appendages, the hellish bitch rolled to side, pouncing to her feet just as the pile of rubble she had been buried in was cast asunder. Canine jaws flashing a toothy grin at Pavoroc, Fenris loosed twin hellfire beams from her dragon heads! The two columns of raw heat and force speared the air, sizzling the already searing sky. On instinct, Pavoroc jerked to the side with a clap of his wings. But avoiding one beam, the feathered defender veered into the other. Engulfed by flames and smoke, the noble flier fell back with a shriek.
Snarling gleefully, Fenris lunged!
Struggling to a kneel, Pavoroc narrowed his eyes dangerously as the Hound of Death closed in. Crying out like a bird of prey, the smoldering champion flicked out a wing, the other too busy supporting his weight. As what seems like a harmless breeze passed over Fenris's flank, blood and fur was diced to bits! Screaming as the pain of a dozen slashed shot into her side, the Hellhound Queen collapsed, falling just short of Pavoroc. With the wolf squirming at his talons, the bird exhaled, releasing an anxious breath. That bladstorm hadn't been near full developed, so he was glad the premature attack had stopped Fenris. But in his relief, the great avian failed to notice the lashing mass of darkness gathering in Fenris's mammalian jaws. The writhing frenzy of shadows were clinging to the shape of her vicious fangs like a second skin, taking on their deadly shape.
In a violent release of evil energy, the inky jaws were launched forth like a demonic cannon!
Pavoroc screamed in agony as the dark maw tore ino his shoulder, somehow biting into and passing throughout it at the same time. As they dispersed, leaving a hot spray of blood behind, the bird toppled, falling flat on his back. With a piercing howl, Fenris leapt atop him! Punching both forepaws into Pavoroc's gut, Death's Bride winded the hero. The winged guardian wheezed miserably. Rearing to her full height, Fenris loomed over the bird, jaws open and burning with crimson flames. Lunging down, the twisted bitch made to take a savory bite from Pavoroc...

As Fenris lunges downward, Pavoroc swings his beak upward. The sharp blow connects with the top of her skull, making the hellhound yelp and stopping her lunge. Pavoroc quickly follows with another blow, then another, and another. Each blow strikes like a pickaxe, precisely aimed at the exact same spot on her forehead. After the fourth blow, Fenris is sufficiently stunned for Pavoroc to shove her off of himself with his feet. He quickly rolls over and takes to the air, the hook at the tip of his beak covered with blood.
Pavoroc hardly gets off the ground when he’s struck in the back by a Hellfire Blast. The explosion nearly knocks the guardian back down, but he pumps his wings and manages to gain altitude. Several more orbs follow, but without the element of surprise Pavoroc rather easily avoids them. He swings around and fires his Rainbow beam, hammering Fenris with it and then immediately following with a volley of lightning.
With Fenris recovering from the proverbial one-two punch she just received, Pavoroc swoops down and snatches a large boulder in his talons and takes it into the air before hurling it at his foe.

Staggered by the duo of energy attacks that had scorched her pelt in quick succession, Fenris has no time to avoid the incoming boulder. Landing with a sharp crack, the great rock slammed right into her canine head, square between the eyes. With a low moan, the hellish chimera collapses to her belly. Blood was slowly welling up across her brow, the blow breaking skin and tearing flesh. With his foe down and vulnerable, Pavoroc furled his wings and dove.
Unfortunately for him, you had to bash more than one head to totally disorientate the Hellhound Queen.
As Pavoroc swooped down, one of Fenris's dragon heads- unaffected by the injury its wolf counterpart received- lunged up, fanged maw snapping open. Pavoroc screeched in agony as vicious teeth tear into the thick skin of his claws, one of his legs caught in an organic bear trap of a mouth. Dark flecks of avian blood speckled the ground, staining the porous volcanic rock. Rising to her feet, Fenris wheeled to the side and hurled the feathered champion away. Quickly punching out his wings, Pavoroc caught the air and himself mid-fall. Leveling off, the noble giant banked...
... to collide head-on with a cutting crescent of shadow.
Pavoroc shrieked loudly as his scalp was practically split in two, his hot life essence flowing freely over his head. Going limp in his shock and pain, the bird dropped like a stone, wings hanging uselessly. As soon as Pavoroc hit the ground, Fenris was upon him! Placing both forepaws on the fallen flier's back, Death's Bride smiled maniacally. This was going to be fun. With a sudden backwards jerk, the devil dog raked both set of claws across Pavoroc's body, shredding his plumage and flesh. At the same time, great arcs of heat leapt from her claws, igniting feathers like flash paper. The result of the two simultaneous actions was a small eruption of blood and flames across the bird's back! Stiffening out in an instant, Pavoroc reared up and cried out, eyes squeezed shut.
Wetting her chops in preparation of more delicious pain, Fenris let her dragon jaws yawn. A savage crimson glow escaped the reptilian maws as they parted, twin hellfire blast about be vomited up upon Pavoroc...

Sensing the building energies, Pavoroc reacts quickly. He spreads his wings and train, and suddenly a brilliant flash emanates from his entire body. Fenris reels back, howling in pain as all eight of her eyes are overstimulated far beyond their capacity to process by the blinding light, the effects likely made even worse by the fact that the ambient lighting is rather dim. Taking the opportunity, Pavoroc quickly makes his getaway, getting well clear of Fenris as she blindly fires the Hellfire beams, sweeping them in wide arcs but hitting nothing but empty air. The guardian turns around and hovers in the air for a moment, watching as Fenris shakes her heads and paws at her eyes in an attempt to bring her vision back.
“You only got a taste of this before, hellhound. Now you will feel its full fury.”
He begins pumping his wings faster, whipping up powerful winds which in turn pelt Fenris with loose rocks. She digs her claws into the rocky ground to anchor herself from being blown back. After a couple seconds, she suddenly cries out in pain as the first cut appears on her right shoulder. Another cut then appears on her left dragon head, just below its eye. Another on her left flank. Her right thigh. Her left side, right across the ribs. Across her wolf snout. Left forearm. Right shin. By now, small streams of blood have started to be picked up by the winds, carried away from her fur to pepper the rocks who knows how far behind her. Another on her right thigh. Along her back. Her left claw.
By the time Pavoroc finally slows down his flapping, Fenris has over a dozen fresh, oozing cuts all over her body. To her credit, though, she’d managed to maintain her footing through it all. On top of that, her vision is returning. Pavoroc seeks to rectify the former by charging up his Rainbow beam to its maximum and firing it at the canine. Fenris looks up just in time to see the beam fill her still-blurred vision. The beam, bigger around than her torso, slams into the hellhound head-on, engulfing much of her frame before blasting her back in huge explosion.
Fenris bounces a couple times on the rocky ground before rolling to a stop, smoke rising from much of her front half. Pavoroc flies over to where his opponent lays. Despite her lack of movement, Pavoroc is wary after the previous times and maintains his altitude, opting to rain down a volley of wing lightning on her. But once again the hellhound surprises him, for as soon as he unleashes his bolts she fires off a Hellfire beam. Both attacks hit their respective targets at the same time, Fenris howling in pain as the bolts tear into her while Pavoroc cries out as his wing is struck. The force of the beam causes the bird to involuntarily roll, making him lose his proverbial footing in the air momentarily. He falls a couple hundred meters, flailing his wings around uselessly before finally managing to roll back over and catch himself, at which point he immediately fires his Rainbow beam at Fenris.

The colorful beam's path is straight and true, trained directly on Fenris. However, the devil dog is ready for it. Three maws whip open- one canine, the others draconic- and three orbs of crimson fire erupt forward. The rainbow beam and the trio of hellfire blast meet, and a fireball blooms in midair! To shield himself from the blast, Pavoroc drops to the ground and wraps his wings around himself. As the force of the blast tears past him, debris bouncing harmlessly off his body, the bird unfurls his wings.
Fenris greeted him with a full body embrace.
Tackled to the ground by the bitch queen, Pavoroc cries out as the Hound of Death bites into his neck. Fenris's fangs easily tear through his feathers and flesh, blood spurting up into her mouth. With a satisfied growl and a rush of predatory glee, the chimera happily laps up the generous flow of blood. Both fearful and indignant, Pavoroc shrieks again, but not in pain. No, his eagle-like scream was a battle cry! Unnoticed by Fenris in her greedy feeding, a technicolor glow rose from the bird's chest, swiftly glowing brighter. Charging the power gathering at his breast to its fullest extent, Pavoroc the mass of energy and punched with wings forward.
Hammered by a full-strength rainbow ray and socked by strong wings, Fenris was hurled back violently!
The bestial demon hit the ground hard, underside smoking and smouldering. Leaping back into his element, Pavoroc dove furiously at Fenris, claws swinging forward to maul the multi-headed terror. But with a snap of tough armor, the hellhound's scorpion stinger buried itself into the guardian's side! Blindsided by the lightning-fast blow, Pavoroc fell sideways through the air. He began screeching even before he smashed into the ground, corrosive acid pouring from ragged hole the stinger punched into his body. To make matters worse, Fenris's snake tail lunged at him, a thin stream of acid arcing from its yawning maw to the bird's face. Pavoroc's cries grew louder as the deadly liquid burnt at his face, narrowly missing his eyes. Instead, they ate away at the great avain's brow and cheek. Just as sadistic as its master, the bright-eyed serpent lunged again, hissing with dark delight. This time, the snake was aiming to sink its fangs into the jugular of the feathered champion...

As the serpent strikes, Pavoroc lashes out with his beak once again, catching it just behind the head. Despite preventing a direct injection by the snake’s fangs, Pavoroc can do nothing to stop it from spraying the acid onto his neck. He manages to maintain his hold on the serpent despite the pain, but catches movement out of the corner of his eye. Fenris’ scorpion tail raises up and strikes, aiming for his chest! Again the guardian manages to intercept the attempted strike, this time by catching it in his talons and quickly pointing the tip of the stinger away from him to avoid the inevitable spray.
With both of her strikes now thwarted and her tails held by her opponent, Fenris turns to look back at the bird, all three sets of fangs bared and snarling. Not willing to wait for her to make another move, Pavoroc springs off the ground with a flap of his wings. Making sure to maintain a strong grip on both tails, Pavoroc twists in mid-air, stretching out his free foot to bury his talons in the closest part of his opponent: her rump. The hellhound lets out a yelp as the four long talons sink into her right cheek. She tries to pull away, twisting and bucking in an attempt to dislodge him, but Pavoroc will have none of it. Pumping his powerful wings, the guardian begins to lift Fenris into the air. First her back feet lift off, forcing her to scrabble at the rocky ground with her front paws in an attempt to find something to latch onto. It’s ultimately unsuccessful, and after another couple seconds she loses contact with the ground entirely.
As Pavoroc carries her ever higher, Fenris’ struggles become ever more desperate. She flails her legs, searching for something, anything, to get a grip on. Her scorpion pincers snap at the foot gripping her backside, but just can’t quite reach due to the awkward angle. She tries to twist around to fire on him with her energy weapons, but with gravity working so thoroughly against her this proves impossible with any sort of accuracy. There are several near misses, not helped by the fact that Pavoroc can easily read what she’s trying to do and either jerks her to throw her aim off or turns his body just enough to avoid it. All said, her efforts, while commendable, are futile. She’s well and truly gotten, helpless in the bird’s clutches.
Once reaching around 7000 feet, just below the clouds, Pavoroc stops acending. Time seems to go in slow-motion as he releases his grip on both of Fenris’ tails and her rump. The hellhound’s eyes grow wide upon the realization of what’s happening. For perhaps the first time in her life, Fenris is filled with complete and utter terror. She howls in despair as she plummets toward the ground below, the sound growing ever fainter to Pavoroc’s ears. The corners of his mouth curl upwards as he watches her get smaller.
“Watch that first step. It’s a doozy.”
After several long seconds of freefall, Fenris impacts, pulverizing the ground into dust and gravel. Upon seeing the puff of dust as his foe collides with the rocky terrain below, Pavoroc begins a spiraling descent to allow the dust to settle so he can properly survey the damage. Once it does, he sees his foe laying in the middle of a crater nearly 200 meters across, blood leaking from her mouths and nostrils as well as several fresh wounds.
Taking full advantage of the opportunity, Pavoroc charges his Rainbow beam to its maximum and fires it at the unconscious Fenris. The hellhound is engulfed in a massive explosion once again, scorching her flesh and pounding her further into the ground. When the smoke again clears, Fenris hasn’t moved. Thinking his opponent is down for the count, he charges another Rainbow beam up to its maximum and fires, hoping to finish her off.
